Since the opening of the Marietta-Maytown Family Health Center almost three months ago in the former offices of Dr. Michael Gratch, 23 S. River Street, Maytown, the number of physicians serving there has increased from four to twelve. It is open Mon- day, Wednesday and Fri- day from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM. According to Dr. Dale Boyd, director of the Pri- mary Care Department at St. Joseph Hospital, “This is the first step in estab- lishing a permanent pri- mary care practice in the Marietta-Maytown area.’’ “Primary care is a sys- tem of health care delivery that emphasizes continuous care, comprehensive care and quality care. It is the patient’s first stop for health maintenance, peri- odic check-ups, diagnosis, and referral, if necessary.” “Il really feel that the hospital-based primary care system is the right one. It means that the Center exists with the sophisticat- ed backup services that the hospital offers.” ‘St. Joseph is committed to primary care and its importance in a society where the number of spec- ialists is increasing and the number of family practi- tioners is not growing as rapidly.
