Page 14 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES ; Swimming program for the handicapped A summer swim program sponsored by the Lancaster County American Red Cross Chapter, for the orthopedically handicapped will be held Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Millers- ville Lions Club pool during the months of July and: August. The program, available to the handicapped in Lancaster County, will commence Saturday, July 3rd, and will be under the supervision of Water Safety Instructor, Mrs. Emma Girl Scouts On June Sth at 5:30 a.m., Junior Girl Scout Troop #32 of Mount Joy left for New York City. The girls enjoyed a 3 hour boat cruise around New York City. Some of the places they saw while on the boat were the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center, and the United Nations Headquarters. The troop visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rocke- feller Center, the Empire State Building, and Radio City Music Hall. While in Radio City, the girls saw the Rockettes, the floor Kendig. Past participants and in- structors are urged to attend and new participants and instructors will be wel- comed. There is no charge for participation in this program and the only re- quirement is permission in writing from the handicap- ped swimmer’s doctor. Leaders for Troop #32 are Mrs. Nancy Kopf and Miss Ella Gainer. Brownies get wings Recently, Junior Troop #32 of Mount Joy held a fly-up ceremony for Brown- ie Troop #1123. At this ceremony, brownies who are in the third grade fly-up into a Junior Girl Scout Troop. They receive Brownie wings from their leaders and a Girl Scout pin from their new leaders. The new junior scouts are: Jennifer Applegate, Kim- berly Funk, Stacey Gin- grich, Stephanie Maxwell, Linda Sherk, Jody Stout- zenberger, Dana Yingst, and Dawn Zimmerman. The Brownie Leaders are: Mrs. Janet Breault and Mrs. Shirley McCurdy. pos Barbara Reuter Marietta summer activities Supervised summer playground activities will beging Monday, July Sth, at Marietta Memorial Park. Children must be six years of age or going into first grade to attend the session. Miss Barbara Reuter will return as a supervisor and Henry Williams, Jr., will serve as a first year in- structor. Swimming lessons will be held the last two weeks in July from 9 to 10 a.m. The first free swim will be held July 8th. Each addi- tional free swims will be held on succeeding Mon- days unless it rains, in which case they will be held on Thursdays. The supervised activity will be concluded on August 13th. Music in- structions will be super- vised by Morrell Shields at Riverview Elementary School, Marietta. A sche- dule is being prepared by the teacher. Henry Williams, Jr. Raelene Harbold to visit Pakistan for International 4-H exchange Raelene Harbold, Eliza- bethtown, R.D.#4, has been selected to participate in the International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE). She will depart August 15 for Pakistan where she will live and work with farm families for four months, returning to Lancaster County just before Christ- mas. Raelene is one of five PA youths to be chosen this year. She will travel to Pakistan with seven other people from around the country. A 4-H’er for 10 years, Raelene belonged to the 4-H Holstein Club and owned five dairy animals of her own. She was on the dairy cattle judging team which won the state contest and judged in the National Contest in Ohio. The PA team placed fifth and Rae- lene placed second nation- ally in giving oral reasons for her placings. In 1973, Raelene was chosen Lancaster County’s Dairy Princess and partici- pated’in the state contest, being named second run- ner-up and Miss Congen- iality. A 1972 graduate of Elizabethtown High School, Raelene recently resigned her position as dental assistant to Dr. Werner Z. Fetter, where she had worked for four years. Raelene is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harbold, Elizabethtown. She is an advisor to the youth group at the Con- gregational Bible Church, Marietta and is currently teaching Bible School. Raelene is spending as much time as possible learning about the people and customs of Pakistan, a country the size of Cali- fornia with 70 million people, 96% of whom are of the Muslim faith.
