On July 4, the service will be at 8:00 a.m., and Sunday Church School will be at 9:30 a.m. On July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15, and 29, the service will be at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday Church School will be at 9:30 a.m. August 22 there will be no Service and no Sunday Church School. September 5 and each succeeding Sunday there- after we will return to our normal schedule of holding Service at 10:45 a.m. and Sunday Church School at 9:30 a.m. SUSQUEHANNA TIMES - Page 13 CHIQUES CHURCH The Chiques United Methodist Church, Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, will have a special Bicentennial Service on Sunday, July 4th at 10 a.m. Rev. Woodrow W. Kern, minister announces that Mr. Jack W. W. Loose, Department Chairman and Teacher, History and Social Sciences, Donegal High School, will be the guest speaker. His theme will be ‘‘American Revolutionists: They Died In Bed.” Mr. Loose said, ‘‘Despite the title of my talk, the content will be on an elevated level, with patriotic and in- spirational feelings for a Methodist Congregation. It will not be simply history.” Although Mr. Loose is a Unitarian, he is the great- grandson of Daniel Tyler Willson, a Trustee and Chairman of the Building Committee = of Grace Methodist Church, Harris- burg. In addition, he is the great, great, great-grand- son of Jacob Mathiot, a founding father and trustee of the Methodist Church, Columbia. ST. JOHNS CHURCH On Sunday, July 4, 1976, beginning at 8 a.m., St John’s Evangelical Luther- an Church, North Queen Street, Maytown, will cele- brate a liturgy from its colonial past. The service will be from the 1748 ritual book of its second pastor, Michael Enderline. The service will be that of Word and Sacrament. The Com- munion ware used in the service will be the first communion ware used by the church; made of pewter and used by the congrega- tion from 1766 through 1879. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church was or- ganized in 1765 and the present structure was erected in 1804. The service will also in- corporate hymn singing with the foresinger. Fol- lowing the service, there will be an opportunity to hear a lecture and present- ation about the history of the congregation. Visitors are welcome. Those attending the service are encouraged to wear colonial attire. RELIGIOUS CONCERT A Bicentennial Religious “Open Air’ Service will be held on Sunday evening. July 11th at 7 p.m., in “The Dell’ behind the Riverview School in Mari- etta. All area churches will be participating in this ser- vice. The Community Chorus will be singing. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Parking will be available at the Riverview School and Congregational Church. Come out and enjoy an evening of worship and song. ' ST MARKS A truly unique and sign- ificant celebration of the 200th birthday of our nation will take place during the 10:15 a.m. Worship hour of Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church, Mount Joy on July 4th. The music for the occa- sion will include congrega- tional singing of '‘O God Beneath Thy Guiding Hand,” *‘O Beautiful for Spacious Skies,” and ‘‘My Country, Tis of Thee.” A select octet will render ‘““The Battlehymn of the Republic,”” and Michael Kohler, baritone, will sing a medley of patriotic selec- tions. Gerald Miller, organ- ist, has selected his music from the pens of American composers. Worshippers will partici- pate throughout the service in prayers of repentence, intercession, and affirma- tion as Americ moves into its third century as a nation. The pastor, W. Richard Kohler, wili preach on the theme, ‘‘Proclaim Liberty." Members of the con- gregation are asked to bring a monetary ‘‘Birt- day gift’’ for America. The money will be used for a project that will help liberate persons in America who may be classified as ‘in captivity.’ After the regular worship period the congregation will retire to the church's fellowship hall to sing ‘*“Happy Birthday’’ to America and to partake of birthday cake and punch. An opportunity will be given to all worshippers to join the original signers of the Declaration otf Indepen- dence by adding their names to a facsimile of the great document and thu: reaffirming the histori position of our forefathers. To this unusual obser vance of one of the land mark occasions in thc history of this country we invite all persons who want something worth remem- bering about July 4, 1976.
