No. 1 responded to a trailer fire in Rolling Hills Estates Trailer Park in Drytown. According to Fire Chief Frank Good of Friend- ship Fire Co., Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Boone retired for the night between 12:30 a.m., and 1:00 a.m., and were awakened at about 2:40 a.m., when Blackie their pet puppy jumped on their bed. The extinguisher knocked the flames down but the fire flared up again. Mr. Boone rescued Blackie and got out of the home. John Lutz, fire dispatcher at the zone 7 alerting base received the call at 2:43 a.m., for Friendship Fire Co., with the report of flames showing through the roof. Upon arrival, fire- fighters found the trailer in flames. The fire was brought under control in minutes. Florin Fire Co. responded with 2 tank trucks to the scene. Chief Frank Good states a malfunction in the furnace caused the blaze. The five destroyed the contents of the trailer at a loss of $3,500.00 and $6,000.00 to $8,000.00 to the trailer. A total of S09 men responded to the fire call from the 2 Mount Joy Departments. Friendship Fire Co. was back in quarters at 5:28 a.m. Chief Good noted that people should make sure their furnace is in good shape by having it serviced once a year. January 17, Friendship Fire Co., responded to a fire call at the Central Hotel, N. Market Street, Mount Joy when a fire alarm box was pulled at 5:56 p.m. There was no fire. An automatic alarm brought firefighters to Don- egal Industries at 7:42 p.m., January 17. The department was in service about 20 minutes for each call with 25 men resnonding to each call. MYO to meet The Maytewn Youth Or- ganization will meet on Monday, January 26, at the Legion at 7:30 p.m. in order to organize for a member- ship drive and a sub sale. MYO president John Leas urges all members and interested persons to attend this important meeting. The Marietta Auxiliary to the Columbia Hospital voted to contribute $500 to its pledge for the building fund at the regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Ralph Youtz. Mrs. Joseph Carroll, vice- president, conducted the business session in the absence of the president, Mrs. Joseph Gilmartin. SLOAN’S Mrs. Ralph Miller, secretary presented the check to the administrator of the Colum- bia Hospital, Russell Step- anchek. The group also voted to delete the word, Branch from its title; thus the name will be Marietta Auxilliar to the Columbia Hospita Match has now given $1,300 to the hospital in the past year. The December Christmas Tea benefit and luncheon made approximatly $235 profit. A Colonial Safari will be held at the home of the secretary, Mrs. Ralph Mil- ler, on May 8. A bicenten- nial theme will be followed at the party. Mrs. Donald Lenard and Mrs. Ralph Youtz will be co-chairman of a booklet containing recipes and information concerning the event.
