The sisters entered the canyon on October 29 to celebrate their recent birthdays, with a com- bined age of over 100 years. The endeavor included two days of camping at Cottonwood Camp- ground on the north side of the canyon and over 14 miles of hik- ing each day. Lane, a rookie hiker and back- packer from Naples, Florida em- braced the challenge with her sis- ter, a Flagstaff, Arizona resident for the last decade and experi- enced Grand Canyon Hiking Guide. An ever-smiling Lane contin- ually commented about the awe- some views and unbelievable landscape of the southwest and the incredible vistas of the Grand Canyon. Lane resides with her husband Larry and Golden Retriever, Casey. Reed lives with her faith- ful companions, King and Bella, Great Pyrenees and Newfoun- dland dogs.
