Giacometti also smashed a two-run homer and added a sin- gle and Archer added two hits of his own. Matt Mathers crunched a double and a single and the Charlton brothers, Zach and Alex, each had to hits for the O’s. Ethan Zawatski pitched well and took the loss for the Rangers. Jim Oschal and Michael Luksic registered the only hits in the loss. Playoff action NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP ASTROS 7 PIRATES 1 Nick Kocher tossed a three-hit- ter and struck out 11 as the Astros defeated the Pirates, 7-1, to claim the Back Mountain National League pennant. Jacob Stritzinger connected on a clutch two-run single in the third inning to extend the Astro lead to 4-1. Jorden Finch and Ian Dawsey also banged out two sin- gles for the Astros. Byron Oldeack pitched well in a losing effort for the Pirates. Jus- tin Marshall, Jack Tomko, Byron Oldeack collected the Pirates’ three hits. Marshall scored the lone run for the Pirates. SPORTS BRIEFS Rock Rec Center offers basketball camp The Rock Rec Center, 340 Carverton Rd., Trucksville will hold its ninth annual summer basketball camp for boys and girls Pre-K through sixth grade. Dates and times are as fol- lows: Pre-K-First grade — 9 a.m. to noon, weeks of June 27 and July 25; Second and third grade -9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weeks of July 11 and August 1; Fourth-Sixth grade — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weeks of July 18 and August 8. Athletes who earned four varsity letters or three varsity letters and one junior varsity letter in their sport receive Gold Awards. LL JV team ends season The Lake-Lehman junior var- sity volleyball team ended its season with a 10-2 record. The team was victorious against WVW, Delaware Valley, Hazle- ton, Dallas, Holy Redeemer, Ha- nover, Coughlin, North Pocono, Berwick and Tunkhannock.
