Prizes were awarded in ® BACK MOUNTAIN BASEBALL Gorski earns mound win Astros 10 Pirates 5 Noah Gorski earned the victo- ry, striking out eight and allow- ing four hits as the Astros defeat- ed the Pirates, 10-5. Gorski also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-2 with a double and two RBIs. Nick Kocher and Jorden Finch chipped in with two hits and Matt Dillon smashed a double for the Astros. Chris Murray and Eric Llewe- lyn pitched well for the Pirates. The Pirate offensive attack was led by Nick Whitesell’s two hits and two RBIs. Byron Oldeack and Justin Marshall also hit safe- ly for the Pirates. Yankees 9 Orioles 8 Collin Pertl picked up his third win of the season as the Yankees came back from an 8-1 deficit to outlast an undefeated Orioles team, 9-8. Matt Mathers dominated the Yankee offense throughout most of the game, allowing three in- field hits while striking out eight. Kyle Archer led the Orioles of- fense with three hits while Math- ers and Charles Giacometti tacked on two hits each. Cody Coolbaugh led the Yan- kee comeback with a three run double to pull the Yankees close at 84. Jordan Vitkoski led off the Yankee last-inning rally with the first of five consecutive doubles by Michael Doggett, David Schuster, Darren Kerdesky and Owen Sprau. After an out, and with the Yan- kees trailing 8-7, Liam Barrett hit a walk-off double to give the Yan- kees their first lead of the night and the victory. Coolbaugh led the Yankee offense with two hits. Astros 7 Yankees 6 Brody Strickland picked up the win in relief of Nick Kocher as the Astros edged the Yankees, 7-6. Riley Newman and Adam Sut- ton blasted clutch doubles late in the game to lead the Astros. Noah Gorski added three hits, includ- ing a double. Nick Kocher smashed two doubles and Jorden Finch chipped in with two hits and two runs scored. Lorenzo Buchhalter pitched extremely well for the Yankees, striking out seven Astros. David Schuster and Darren Kerdesky led the Yankees offense with two hits apiece. Derek Answini added a clutch hit with two RBIs. Michael Dog- gett and Lorenzo Buchhalter also scored for the Yankees. Dodgers 7 Giants 6 Henry Selingo’s single in the bottom of the sixth with two outs scored two runs as the Dodgers nipped the Giants, 7-6. The Dodgers entered the in- ning down ,6-5. Jake Selingo started the inning with a single and Ben O'Connell added a hit before Selingo’s winning hit. O’Connell secured his second win pitching in relief, striking out the side to end the top of the sixth. The Dodgers offense was led by O’Connell and Henry Sel- ingo, each with three hits. Jake Selingo added two hits and Alex Kapral hit a double. The Giants offense was led by Jackson Shaver with two hits, Christo Huntington with a triple and Michael Huntington with a double. As7 Red Sox 3 The A’s defeated the Red Sox, 7-3, behind a strong pitching per- formance by Derek Peters. Peters gave up only two hits and had eight strikeouts in four innings of work. Mason Gattuso also pitched well in two innings of relief. Josh Holdredge and Peters led the A’s bats with two hits each. Mason Gattuso, Colin Bowanko, and Andrew Kovalick also chipped in with key hits. Josh Strausser took the loss on the mound for the Red Sox, while Bobby Wagner and Jason Ander- son had hits in the loss. Pirates 9 Red Sox 0 Jack Tomko homered as the Bucs shut out the Red Sox, 9-0. The Pirates were led by the pitching of Byron Oldeack who struck out nine in five innings of work. Tomko came on to close out the victory by pitching one in- ning and striking out one. The offense was led by Tomko who had three hits, including a home run while Oldeack and Jus- tin Marshall had two hits apiece. Jason Anderson, Jason Strauss- er and Matthew Roberts handled the pitching while Strausser had the Red Sox lone hit. Dodgers 14 As9 The Dodgers beat the A’s, 14-9, behind the strong pitching of Cameron Shaner, Ben O’Connell and Henry Selingo. The pitching trio combined for 10 strikeouts and O’Connell picked up the win. O’Connell led the offense with four hits, Shaner and Alex Kapral added three hits each. Conner Phillips and Jake Selin- go added two hits each, including Selingo’s double for two RBIs. The A’s were led on offense by Josh Holdredge who had three hits, including two doubles. De- rek Peters, Elijah Geise and Mi- chael Collins added two hits each with Geise hitting two doubles and Peters adding one double. Peters, Geise and Collins each had two RBIs. U2 GIRLS SOCCER TEAM | FINISHES IN FIRST PLACE | Rodriguez and Andy Sandoe. The Wyoming Valley Soccer Club U-12 girls team recently finished in first place in the Eastern Pennsylvania State Cup National Championship Series. The girls will advance to compete with 15 other states in the U.S. Youth Soccer Regional One Championships in June.
