7) | will sponsor its annual JAKES ¥—oday, April 25, at Moon Lake Sunday, April 25, 2010 Tre DALLAS. POST PAGE 11 Gone FISHIN Much to the delight of area fishermen — and fisherwomen - the 2010 trout season officially started at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 17. And, despite chilly weather, fisher persons were found casting their lines into Back Mountain waterways. Cloudy skies and cooler temperatures may have been the reason for a lower than usual turnout at several stocked streams and lakes in northern Luzerne County. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission Waterways Conservation Officer John Cummings estimated the turnout in his district was ap- proximately 20 percent lower than last year’s opening day. WCO Greg Kraynak, whose district includes the southern half of - Luzerne County, said the turnout was slightly less because of the weather and there should be plenty of trout left over for the reason of the season. Kraynak added that two exceptions were Lily Lake, which was packed with anglers at 8 a.m., and the Lehigh River. Still, there were places in the county where angler numbers were strong and so was the number of trout they landed. With the exception of one or two stocked locations, most of the pull-off areas along state Route 29 were packed with cars from anglers § ishing Harveys Creek. At 8 a.m., most of the popular holes in the creek were lined with anglers and, even hours later, there were still plenty of trout being caught.
