Family looks on as new John and Mary Metz Dining Hall is unveiled Flanked by a grateful campus community, John C. and Mary Metz watched as Misericordia University unveiled signage to officially dedicate the new John and Mary Metz Dining Hall in the Banks Student Life Center on campus. Mr. Metz, executive chairman of The Metz Group, has been a member of the board of trustees at Misericordia University since 1988. Metz & Associates, Ltd. is a regional food service provider and operates in a variety of set- tings such as major hospitals, public school districts, inde- pendent schools, colleges, uni- versities and corporate offices. Local Metz restaurants in- clude T.GI. Friday's, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Wolfgang Puck Express and Lucky’s Spor- tHouse. The nearly $1 million make- over and expansion of the din- ing hall was made possible by support from the Metz family. The renovation work created an inviting atmosphere for stu- dents, including flat-screen tele- visions, music and an increased selection of fresh dining choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A sleek dark ceiling acts as the perfect backdrop for trendy new lighting which hangs be- low. A vibrant color scheme of brick and electric blue perfectly complement the polished hard- wood floor in the dining hall and the blue and white tile floor in the serving area. Abstract art adorns one of the walls and the new serving stations incorpo- rate a contemporary polished chrome look with eye-catching signage. Metz Dining Hall now fea- tures a scatter system of spe- cially designed food stations, in- cluding grill, deli, salad, des- serts, beverages and a display cooking stations, featuring a carving station. The organization uses volunteer labor and charitable gifts to ensure that homes are affordable to low-income fam- ilies in Wyoming Valley. Habitat families are selected based on level of need, willing- ness to become partners in the Habitat program and the abili- ty to repay a no-interest, 20- year mortgage. Mortgage payments are “re- cycled” to help build more An average Habitat house for a family of four in the United States is 1100 square feet, has three b rooms and costs $55,000 to bui homes for qualified families. Fam- ilies that purchase Habitat homes invest at least 300 hours of “sweat equity” volunteer labor. Select Your Caregiver! We know it isn’t easy to invite someone into your home to provide homecare.
