Hoops r Hope The Dallas High School gymnasium was the scene of the ninth annual “Hoops for Hope” event organized by Junior Lead- ership Wilkes-Barre. The three-on-three basketball tournament benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Funds were raised through $10 registration fees from participants, proceeds from a snack ta- ble and sponsors from lo- cal businesses. The win- ning team, the “Mon- stars,” received “Cham- pion” t-shirts while “Team Domination” received “Al- most Champion” t-shirts for finishing second. DHS DIVING TEAM COMPETES AT STATES Three divers from the Dallas High School Diving Team traveled to the Pennsylvania Interscho- lastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state competition at Bucknell University March 18-20. Dallas divers secured three of the four seats for District 2 based on their performance at the District 2 AA Diving Championship held last month at the Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre. During the girls’ competition, Sarah Zerfoss, a sophomore, placed first with a score of 40610 and Erica Luzet- ski, a sophomore, placed second with a score of 323.35. During the boys’ competition, Michael Stec, a junior, placed second with a score of 410.95. The Dallas Diving Team is coached by Arie Vankuyk. Good Shepherd 44 Dallas 22 James Slavinski scored a game-high 27 points and Bran- don Povilitus added nine to lead Good Shepherd to a 44-22 win over the Dallas seventh- graders in the championship game of the annual Dallas Youth Basketball Seventh- Grade Boys Tournament.
