CIVIC BRIEFS Spaghetti dinner will benefit Samsons Harveys Lake American Le- gion Post 967 will hold a benefit spaghetti dinner from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan.15, at the post home. A $10 donation includes din- ner and light refreshments. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Dan and Carole Samson who suffered a great loss on New Year’s Eve when fire de- stroyed their home. During the holiday season, a party was held with music and refreshments. HARVEYS LAKE BOROUGH New mayor sworn in while community rallies to help council member Sams By EILEEN GODIN Dallas Post Correspondent A new year means new faces on the Harveys Lake Borough Council as four new council members and a new mayor were sworn in Monday night. Clarence Hogan, who de- feated former Mayor Richard Boice in November, was all smiles as he took his seat. Two years remaining on Hogan's council term will be filled by Richard E. Williams III. New council members Boyd T. Barber, Francis J. Kupko and Larry A. Radel, all Repub- licans, replace Betty Jane West, Ed Kelly and Lawrence Lucarino. Newly-elected Luzerne Coun- ty President Judge Thomas Burke swore in new council members and the mayor. Other re-appointments were Kupko as council president, Ra- del as vice president, Susan Sut- ton as borough secretary, Andy Luzetski as zoning officer, Char- les McCormick as solicitor, Pro- ciak and Associates of Wilkes- Barre as auditor, Pasonick Engi- neering of Wilkes-Barre as bor- ough engineers and Bill Hilbert to a three-year term on the zon- ing board. In other news, it was an- nounced that a spaghetti dinner will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, in the American Legion to benefit council mem- ber Carole Samson and her hus- band. The Samsons’ home burned to the ground on New Year’s Eve. Tickets are $10 and available at Javer’s Store, the American Le- gion or by calling the borough of- fice at 639-2113. Betty Jane West announced that donations can be dropped off at the borough build- ing.
