Misericordia University re- @ presented alumni Joan ith Foster and Nadine Kuder- ka Howe with the Alumni Medal- lion Award at the annual Alumni Awards dinner held during Alum- ni Weekend. The Alumni Medallion Award is awarded annually during Alumni Weekend to recognize anniversary class members who have demonstrated outstanding community service, commit- ment to the strengthening of fam- ily life and distinguished profes- sional contributions. A Harveys Lake resident, Fos- ter earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1979 from Misericordia and began her career as an accounting officer in the financial division at United Penn Bank for 10 years. She joined the MU faculty in the late 1980s and has served as a class agent for the class of 1979. Foster joined the admissions department at MU in 2006 and two years later was named assist- ant director of admissions, re- sponsible for transfer student recruitment. Her professional accomplish- ments include membership in the Institute of Management Ac- countants where she serves on the editorial board of the maga- zine, “Strategic Finance.” She has presented papers at professional conferences for almost a decade. At Our Lady of Victory Church, Foster serves as a Eucharistic minister and is a member of the church’s finance committee. A United Way representative, she has participated in numerous Day of Caring events and has vol- unteer as secretary/treasurer for the Harveys Lake Protective As- sociation. Howe was elected the first fe- male president of the Rotary Club of Scranton and also serves on the board of the American Red Cross, volunteers for the Ameri- can Diabetes Association and is on the advisory board that is help- ing to develop the new Luzerne County Community College Cul- inary Arts Education Center in Nanticoke. She is a scripture reader and fi- nancial council member at the Blessed Sacrament Roman Ca- tholic Church, Center Moreland, and participates in the Misericor- dia Alumni Volunteer Program.
