Sunday, June 21, 2009 PAGE 11 Ponytail drive A Ponytail Drive at Dallas Mid- dle School resulted in 72 pony- tails worth of hair to be donated to the Pantene Beautiful Length Campaign to make wigs for the erican Cancer Society. Twenty-eight = students and eight staffers participated in the event, along with hair stylists from Snips N Tips in Dallas, Donn Michael's, JC Penney Salon in Wilkes-Barre Township and a few friends and relatives of stu- dents who are also stylists. The Ponytail Drive was the brainchild of English teacher Ma- ryKate Stauffer and math teacher Kathy Dolan. The idea was presented to the student body in September and any students wanting to partici- pate had to commit to growing his or her hair for the entire school year. The students could not dye their hair or do any major styling and were limited to trims in order to maintain the integrity of their hair. Each participant in the drive had enough hair to make up two ponytails each. And, at an average of six pony- tails needed to make one wig, the participants were able to help cre- ate 12 wigs for cancer patients. Each participant got a t-shirt they wore the first Friday of each month and a bracelet donated by the Pay it Forward Foundation as ways to keep them motivated and not give into the urge to get their hair cut.
