SEM STUDENTS TAKE ‘WE LOVE READING’ CHALLENGE In January, Wyoming Seminary Lower School Librarian Lucy Shick posed a challenge to her primary school students: take the “We Love Reading” challenge and read at least 214 books by Valentine's Day. The chil- dren were invited to read any book they liked and then write their name and the book title on a red, pink or white paper heart, which was then placed on the reading tree standing in the library. According to Shick, the stu- dents quickly surpassed the challenge of 214 books and told her, “We love books more than chocolate!” Teachers and staff members, as well as several middle school students, also participa- ted in the challenge, which fosters in- dependent pleasurable reading. Some of the fourth-grade students who helped the primary school meet the “We Love Reading” challenge are, from left, kneeling, Alexandra Geyf- man, Scranton; Avery Conyngham, Shavertown; and Spencer Stirewalt, Shavertown.
