COLLEGE CAMPUS University Founded in 1924 by the Reli- gious Sisters of Mercy, the for- mer College Misericordia, which means “heart of mercy,” in Dallas was the first four-year college in Luzerne County. The Roman Catholic-affiliated college was for women only until the 1970s when it became co-ed. In 2007, College Misericordia at- tained university status and was renamed Misericordia Universi- ty. The 123-acre residential cam- pus has 30 majors in three aca- demic colleges and an enroll- ment of over 2,500 students.
