Dr. James Rand Hummel, a native of Orangeville, is an American author, preacher and camp administrator. Bible School held at DUMC Vacation Bible School was held the week of July 21-25 at the Dal- las United Methodist Church. The theme was “Friendship Trek, Jesus Our Forever Friend” and provided a camping atmo- sphere. In lieu of an offering, the children were asked to provide a donation for the food bank. The response was tremendous as the Bible School collected eight gro- cery bags of food, overfilling its shopping cart. Each day a new Bible Story was studied and acted out by adult volunteers Karan Justus, John Rusin, Kim Rusin, Melyssa Goode, Kim Lanza, Trish Wright, Ellen and Meghan Macarrone, Barb and Bob Henrichs, Dennis Donovan, Allan Kinsman, Carole Broehl, Shirley Mahle, Sally Sido- rek, Reverend Roberts, Bonnie Donovan and Paul and Judy Don- lin. Dennis Donovan and Shirley Goode ran the kitchen, present- ing a meal each evening. Bonnie Donovan is the Sunday School Superintendent. DUMC Sunday School returns Sept. 7 Church service at the Dallas United Methodist Church re- turns to 10:30 a.m. on September 7 with Sunday School at 9 a.m. for children and adults. The first day of Sunday School will be September 7 and will start off with a “Rock Solid” founda- tion, the theme for this session. There will be a lesson plan, crafts and refreshments. A pre-school class for children age 5 and under allows parents to stay with them while there are also classes for young and older elementary stu- dents junior and senior high school students and adults. The Sister circle will hold an Ice-Cream Social after church on September 7 with hot dogs, sal- ads and ice-cream sundaes. An Open House will take place that same day with tours of the church offering participants to view the improvements that have been made to the Sunday School rooms and the basement social halls. A Bible Study led by Rev. Ro- berts will start on September 2 and will meet at 7 p.m. every Tuesday. A “Lunch Bunch” Bible Study will meet at noon on Wednesdays with coffee and tee provided. There will be a covered dish dinner after church on Septem- ber 21 in the social hall. Participa- nts are asked to make their favor- ite dish for this event and to bring a copy of the recipe as a recipe swap will be held. All are welcome at Spirit Bird's Friendship Powwow Spirit Bird's Friendship Pow- wow will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21, at the Noxen Fire Co. grounds on Stull Road, Nox- en, Wyoming County. The intertribal event is a gath- ering for all people sponsored by Tyconac Inc., a non-profit Native organization, and the Noxen Fire Co. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Gates open at 10 a.m. with Grand Entry of all dignitaries and dancers in full regalia at noon In- dian Time. Host drum is Eagle Spirit Drum, with Thunder Over Mountain as guest drum. Head dancers are Raven and Lone Wolf, while Maqua will serve as emcee. Storyteller is Grace Dove. The event will feature Native American dancing, drumming, storytelling, food, crafts, bead- work, jewelry, blankets, fry bread and much more. A special pot luck dinner for dancers and vendors will be held Saturday, night; vendors and dancers are asked to bring a dish to share. Admission is free for all.
