The display is titled «oadside Memorials.” Roadside memorials have much meaning but can be emo- tional and personal. “They remind me how fragile life is, how dangerous,” Rother said. “I began the series a few months after my younger broth- er was in a horrible accident. The car he was driving was hit head on. My brother almost died. That’s when I began to no- tice roadside memorials.” While Rother’s family didn’t need one for her brother, she wants to honor the lives of oth- ers through her watercolor paintings. The paintings are “full sheet” watercolors, large renderings of objects, textiles and memories left along the roadside to memorialize the loss of life.
