Carmel ARTWORK Continued from Page 1 ing closer to the auction, I got more excited for it.” Romanowski started taking art lessons from Hand when she was in kindergarten. This fall, she’ll enter the seventh-grade Wilkes-Barre Academy. Sh wasn’t even nervous when Hand asked her to paint at the auction. “Ifelt pretty honored to be able to paint with her at the auction,” Romanowski said. “I felt like i was pretty good at art.” To prepare for the event, Hand: took Romanowski and Levan- doski to paint live at Frances Slo- cum State Park and at Harveys! Lake. Levandoski also painted at. home. Hand offered plenty of advice to her young apprentices before- hand. Levandoski said Hand told, them the experience would be, very rushed and that they wouldn’t have time to take part: in the auction’s festivities. She warned them they had to work non-stop during each night of the auction until they were finished and to ignore people who tried to talk to them while they were painting. The artist trio headed to the auction on Wednesday night, one night before activities began, to draw basic shapes. They fin- ished sketching on Thursday, started the color and kept work- ing. Levandoski finished his painting Saturday night, but Hand and Romanowski went to Hand’s studio Sunday morning to complete final touches. “It was really, really fun and it was actually stressful getting it done on time because you o had five days to work on it,” Le vandoski said. “We worked on it all day Saturday and five hours every evening, so it totaled around 25 hours of work.” Levandoski’s painting fea- tured the auction block and the center with all three parts to it, the auctioneer and Carol Swee- ney, last year’s chairperson. He had the Dallas Rotary Club on’ the right side and the food stands on the left. The bottom consisted of a border alternating auction items and signs and the top con- tained an auction banner.
