Pugh Bene- fit Horse Show at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds benefited the “Community Cares For Kids” this year by donating a check in the amount of $6,115. CCK, founded by Dr. Francis and Susan Collini, has helped hundreds of children over the last 12 years. It is a non-profit corporation that provides med- ical services without charge at the Renaissance Center in Sha- vertown. The Back Mountain Police Association was also on the grounds of the horse show with its Ident-A-Kid program. As an added twist this year, the show committee awarded a Commu- nity Service Scholarship to an individual 18 years of age or un- der as of December 31, 2007. One of the guidelines for apply- ing for the scholarship was to write an essay, stating how the winner would give back to the community. The first-place, scholarship recipient is Conor Harrington who received a check for $500. Second-place of $400 was won by Jordan Schrock and third place of $300 was won by Kayla Fine. These three recipients are Horses benefit CCK 2 allowed to keep half of the scholarship money and the must .pay, the other half for- ward.
