PAGE 2 THE DALLAS POST Sunday, February 10, 2008 © CROSSWORD CORNER BOYCHOIR Continued from Page 1 ciety while his mother, who also teaches at the university, is a sing- er as well. “I think that it is important to encourage any boys to come here,” Curtis said of the school. “It’s a really great experience. If you love to sing, you'll love the boychoir. It’s definitely a lot of fun.” A typical day at The American Boychoir School starts off with academic classes from 8 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., after lunch, the boys rotate in aural training, written theory, voice technique and physical educa- tion. The boys then participate in afternoon rehearsals, taking one hour to rest, until 6:45 p.m. Boys in the choir who do not live at the school are picked up and return- ed to their homes. Those who board, like Curtis, go to dinner. The boarders then have time to pursue their own interests for the remainder of the evening. In his free time, Curtis plays the piano and the French horn, soccer, video games, basketball and paintball. After he completes eighth grade, he plans to come home and attend Wyoming Semi- nary Upper School where his 14- year-old brother, James, attends school. Even though he expects to continue singing for pleasure, he is unsure of his future. The boychoir’s “Celebrating Harmony 70th Anniversary Tour” will include music from each of the choir’s seven decades, as well as selections from its new album, “Harmony: American Songs of Faith.” The 70th Anniversary Tour will feature works highlighting contemporary American com- posers. “This Little Light of Mine” is an arrangement of the traditional children’s song by Bir- mingham, Ala. composer Ken Berg. Other compositions in- clude Keith Hampton's “Praise His Holy Name” and Moses Ho- gan’s “I am His Child.” Also in- cluded will be “America the Beau- tiful,” arranged by Betty Bertaux. The 70th Anniversary Tour be- gan in July 2007 at the Tangle- wood Music Festival with Boston Symphony Orchestra Music Di- rector James Levine leading the orchestra and The American Boy- choir in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. The Boychoir will perform more than 90 concerts in 15 states during the season, concluding with the Second International Boys & Men’s Choral Festival in Prague, Czech Republic this July.
