MEMORIES Continued from Page 1 signs.com, from a blind search on the internet-search engine Google by entering words such as “hand-painted wedding invi- tations” and “artistic wedding invitations.” She also advertis- es in online listings and is fea- tured on www.luxuriouswed- ding.com, a website in which an editor hand picks business- es. Some people find her through word of mouth in spe- cific regions such as Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Rice has even attracted in- ternational clients through the internet and has worked with customers in Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, Japan and Korea. She hopes to gain cus- tomers from Central and South America, Europe and Asia throughout the next year and says, if a language barrier pre- sents itself, she will hire an in- terpreter. Three part-time employees and Rice’s mother, Linda Rice of Trucksville, currently assist Rice with her workload. Next year, she expects to make sta- tionery for approximately 200 weddings. Since business is ex- panding, she is also consider- ing moving her studio about 500 feet away from her home to a commercial space that is owned by her husband’s par- ents. HISTORY Continued from Page 1 headstones throughout the cem- etery, the nun would tell Pulling a story about each person buried there. Pulling took down all of the information the nun offered and, before she knew it, wrote “Cresson Sisters of Mercy of Lo- retto-Cresson.” Pulling returned to Dallas in 2005 to live at the Mercy Center. She is the receptionist at Mercy International Education Devel- opment and works as a clerk in the Mercy Center gift shop. Aware that the “History of Dal- las” has already been written by D.A. Waters, Pulling says her book will be different by the pic- tures, updated information and the decades added (the “History of Dallas” was written in the 1960s) as she plans to cover Dal- las from its onset to the present day. “I like to find out why things happen the way they do,” she re- marked. For her book, Pulling re searched old farmlands, why the county and borough were formed, businesses and the rise of Main Street with blacksmith shops and automobile stores. She explained how the area was once a popular summer resort and that many people stayed at the former Raub Hotel on the corner of Lake Street, named so because it was located on the only route to get to Harveys Lake from Dallas at one time. During her research, Pulling al- so looked at archives of The Dal- las Post from 1989, the year of the newspaper’s 100th anniversary, and read “The History of Dallas.” With much of her research al- ready complete, Pulling expects her book to be finished sometime in 2008. She intends to submit her work to several publishers once it is complete. Rebecca Bria, a staff writer for The Dallas Post, may be reached at 970- 7436.
