Habersky served as Bo- back’s first Honorary Page during the 2007 summer session of the House of Representatives in Harrisburg. Elena Habersky is first Honorary Page Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Lehman Township, during a recent luncheon honored students and their professional mentors who participated in the 2006-2007 Student Mentor Program. The program matches second-year students with professionals in their chosen career fields. This year's students experienced careers in the fields of engineering, meteorology, education, com- munications, accounting, insurance, and law. Mentors unable to attend the luncheon were Salvatore Schiavone, PNC; John Winter, Aetna Insurance; Arlene Besecker, Dallas Elementary School; Jean Lipski, Lake Lehman High Elena Habersky, of Dallas Township, had the opportunity to serve as the very first Honorary Page of Representative Karen Bo- back, District #117, during the 2007 summer session of the House of Representatives in Har- risburg. Habersky wasintroduced inthe House chamber by Speaker of the House Dennis O’Brien as a stu- dent from Dallas High School. Her parents, Joe and Karen Ha- bersky, were acknowledged as be- ing present in the visitors’ gallery prior to the day’s opening session. Habersky’s duties for the day at the State Capital included run- ning errands, posting mail and making photocopies as needed for Republican members of the House, as well as listening to a va- riety of speakers. Elena also re- ceived permission to attend an of- fice meting with Rep. Boback and a lobbyist who was concerned with the stealing of horses and their shipment overseas. She experienced first hand what a day in the House of Repre- sentatives includes and, for her service, received a personalized certification of recognition from Representative Boback. Currently a junior at Dallas High School, Habersky is actively involved as an aide in the Foreign Language Academy held at the Dallas Elementary School, is a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Steering, numer- ous clubs and plays on the Dallas & ‘ High School girls basketball team. DHS LockIn committee sets meeting The Dallas High School 2008 Graduation Lock In committee will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, in the high school library. The Dallas High School Graduation Lock-In is an alcohol-free, drug-free, fully chaperoned, all-night party for the graduating class. This year’s ninth annual lock-in will be held after graduation on June 13. New ideas and members are welcome. Seniors are reminded to submit pictures for the lock-in video im- mediately.
