To prevent block- ing up traffic and causing a hazard for buses, Kane di- ‘rects drivers to make only . right turns out of the lot. One day recently, however, one motorist didn’t want to obey and turned left, barely missing Kane. “Mr. Kane told me he had to jump out of the way,” said Wycallis Principal Kathleen McCarthy. Kane, however, declined to comment on the incident when reached at home by tel- ephone. In the past, parents picking up children at the 3:40 p.m. dismissal would get stuck be- hind buses in the parking lot until about 4 p.m. About two years ago, a meeting was held between school officials and parents to devise a solu- tion to the problem. School administrators de- cided to allow parents to park in the administration lot in the afternoons and children were dismissed from the cafe- teria, as long as parents made a right turn out of the lot. The parents agreed. The right turn is not an issue in the mornings because parents do not use the administration lot then. According to McCarthy, Kane has worked as a custo- dian at Wycallis for about six or eight months, but has been employed by the Dallas mentary School custodian Joseph Kane was operating a black, late model Cadil- lac with dark windows and special wheel covers. School District for a longer period of time. Kane began directing cars to make the right when school began in September, but the rule has been in place since parents started parking in the admin- istration lot. Dallas Superintendent Frank Galicki says reckless driving is not a problem around the district schools. Though he does not know who the violator was, he says the driver was likely a parent who was unfamiliar with the regulations and direction of traffic. “At this point and time, we don’t know if we’re going to cite the person, but we’re go- ing to continue investigating and go from there,” Galicki said. The motorist who nearly hit Kane was operating a black, late model Cadillac with dark windows and spe- cial wheel covers.
