As Friday, Dec. 21, is the last day of school until the New Year, the students of Dallas High School will not walk through the doors of the school again until January 2, 2008. First semester ends A new year and the conclusion of holiday break signals the near end of the first semester of classes at Dallas. Preceding the end of quarter is an Act 80 scheduled for Monday, Jan. 21, fol- lowed by a Teacher In-Service two days later on January 24. Financial Aid Night set As the year is partially complet- ed, college sits on the near horizon for most Dallas High School se- niors. A rapidly approaching and excessively expensive venue, col- lege preparation is to be taken seri- ously. Thus all college-bound se- niors and their parents should con- sider attending the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Night to be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, in the high school auditorium. Dallas has been hosting this pro- gram for a number of years to an- swer student and parent inquires regarding the completion of the FAFSA form. Over the years, this program has assisted countless stu- dents in receiving financial aid so that they can attend their desired college without the burden of affor- dability. Experts on the process will be on hand to assist all who attend. Band members recognized Numerous Dallas High School stu dents have attained success in their respect mediums over this past year, including members of the band. Dal las High School Band members have been hard at work throughout all year and a few were recently recog- Members Anthony Roppa, Be- thie Martindale, Cara Olson and David Balmer were rewarded for their hard work when accepted into the District 9 Band. Each member was selected as a result of a highly competitive audition process that took place in November. In addition, Anthony Roppa was chosen as a member of the District 9 Orchestra and Micah Cameron and David Balmer met the stan- dards of the District 9 Jazz Band. Good luck to these select members as they compete in the District 9 band festival January 10 through January 12 and the District 9 orchestra festival Ja- nuary 24 through January 26. These esteemed band members, in addition to the Dallas High School chorus, recently put on a perform- ance with the rest of the band in the high school auditorium. After a few postponements due to inclement weather, the band and chorus holi- day concert was successfully carried out on Monday, Dec.17. Winter sports begin Winter sports began a few weeks ago, as well. Boys and girls basketball and swimming, in addition to wres- tling, are all currently in session. Any- one who wants to attend a sporting event over the holiday break can at- tend the Wyoming Valley Basketball Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 27, and Saturday, Dec. 29, as the Moun- taineers boys basketball team will be participants. Furthermore, the girls basketball team will participate in the Pine Grove Tournament on December 27 and December 28. Good luck to all teams engaged in games throughout the holiday break.
