A TEAM Raiders 38 Edwardsville Eagles 30 The Kingston Township Raiders A team improved its record to 54 with a win over Edwardsville on Sunday. Kingston Township opened up the game with an impressive drive but on a fourth and three fumbled, giving Ed- wardsville the ball on its own 15-yard line. Edwardsville marched the distance and scored the first points of the game, making it 80 in favor of the Eagles at the end of the first quarter. On the Raiders’ next offensive posses- sion starting on their own 48-yard line, the power running of Robert Baker and lead blocks by Kris Roccograndi, Nathan Kish and Brandon Rome resulted in a Baker 4-yard scamper for a touchdown and Jim Roccograndi’s 2-point conver- sion to even the score at 8 all. Edwardsville then scored on its next possession and the KT defense, led by John Dougherty, Jim and Kris Rocco- grandi, Henry Puchalsky, Billy Gately, Luke Edwards, Joey Delamater and Brandon Butwin stopped the 2-point conversion, giving the Eagles a 14-8 lead. KT then took possession on its 40- yard line and, with 45 seconds left in the second quarter, scored on a Jim Roc- cograndi 3-yard run. Baker’s 2-point con- version put the Raiders up, 16-14, at the half. On the opening drive of the third quarter, Edwardsville scored on its first play from the line of scrimmage with a quick slant pass and added the 2-point conversion, putting the Eagles ahead, 22-16. The Raiders’ next possession started at KT’s 45-yard line. On a third and five, John Dougherty scampered for 25 yards and on the next play Robert Baker scored from six yards out and Rocco- grandi’s 2-point conversion put the Raid- ers ahead by two, 24-22. On the kick off, a game-changing play by Brandon Rome resulted in Rome re- covering his own kick, giving the Raid- ers a first down on the Eagles’ 48-yard line. KT drove the field and scored on a Robert Baker 6-yard run. The 2-point conversion failed and the third quarter came to an end with KT increasing its lead by eight to 30-22. KT’s defense then held the Eagles on their next offensive series and took over on downs. The Raiders drove the ball 65 yards with Luke Edwards picking up 25 of them on a third down off tackle. Jim Roccograndi scored on a 6-yard run and his 2-point conversion put the Raiders ahead, 38-22. The victory completed an undefeated season; 9-0; in preparation for the upcoming playoffs. This was also the seventh shutout the Raiders defense has recorded for the 2007 season. Throughout the entire season, the de- fense was led by lineman Ryan Martin, David Edwards, Dalton Gattuso, Mike Golden and Jason Anderson. The line- backer core was led by Bret Storrs, Adam Niznik and Tanner Gattuso while the perimeter was secured by Peter Cap- itano, Nick Mathers and Christian Ro- berts.
