Grosek, Jr., of Dallas, by naming them the recipients of the 2007 Trustee Associates Award dur- ing the annual Trustee Associ- ates Awards Dinner on Satur- day, Oct. 13, at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Plains Town- ship. Mr. Grosek is a regional busi- ness and civic leader who has combined his professional acu- men and enthusiasm for educa- tion into service to his commu- nity and Misericordia Universi- “Tony Grosek has been a tire- less worker and dedicated board member,” said Michael A. Mac- Dowell, president of Misericor- dia University. “He has helped Misericordia make the right de- cisions in good times and bad. His advice is always solid and helpful. “Tony and Helen are two of the most dedicated people with which any university could hope to be associated,” he added. Mr. Grosek and his wife, He- len, are the epitome of Miser- icordia. They are loyal, ardent supporters of the institution, giving generously of their time, talent and financial resources to benefit students and Northeast- ern Pennsylvania. Mr. Grosek has provided invaluable leader- ship and sound advice as a Trustee and Trustee Emeritus since he was appointed to the Board in 1990. The couple understands the challenges of higher education. We are cer- tainly moving in the right direc- tion.” The couple’s philanthropy has also extended to three impor- tant capital campaigns that have enabled Misericordia to meet the challenges of the 21st centu- ry. An architectural engineer and businessman, Mr. Grosek lent his considerable professional expertise to several important construction projects on cam- pus. His tenure on the board has been punctuated by the institu- tion’s growing academic reputa- tion, record enrollment and achieving university status. “This great community and the young kids deserve to have something like Misericordia,” Mr. Grosek believes. “I am grate- ful being on the board to do it. I'm proud of all the things we are doing; the way we are building this up to be a great place.” Mr. Grosek’s civic duty began during his tour of duty with the United States Army and also ex- tends to Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School in Kingston where he has been a member of the board since 1973 and has served as vice chairman of the Board. He is also a former member of the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce and Westmoreland Club. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Gro- sek’s business holdings are nu- merous and diverse. He is presi- dent of The Ramada Plaza Hotel in Wilkes-Barre, Eaton Realty, Inc. and the development .com- pany, Management Alliance, Inc., in Wilkes-Barre. He is also the owner of the construction firm, A.J. Grosek and Associates in Wilkes-Barre and is the for- mer president of Grosek & Sons, Inc. in Plains Township, a former family lumber company, and Ten East South Street, a high-rise apartment building in Wilkes-Barre that his company built, managed and owned. His talent and business inter- ests are also responsible for con- structing numerous landmark buildings in the region. Mr. Gro- sek is responsible for Provincial Towers in Wilkes-Barre, the first terminal at the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton International Airport in Avoca, Pittston Area High School and buildings for Mercy and Nesbitt hospitals in Wilkes- Barre and Kingston. Mr. Grosek has a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from Penn State University.
