A celebration of the PT Cruiser with free events was open to the public to raise awareness of Autism. Opening night ceremonies were conduct- ed by Candice Grossklaus, of WYOU -TV 22 and Dave Skut- nik, of WBRE-TV. Beautiful basket raffles were offered and members of the Pioneers Promo Team lead the raffle event. In all, more than $2,000 was raised with more rolling in for the Earthly Angels Autism Fund of the Luzerne Foundation. To ate, Fundrives 1, 2 & 3 have ised over $5,000 for The Earthly Angels. SCHOOL BRIEFS Misericordia grad is on War Crimes Chamber When Patricia Whalen gradu- ated from Misericordia in 1969, she expected to use her degree in drama to pursue a career directing theater. That direction has led the now Honorable Judge Patricia Whalen to a two-year appointment at the War Crimes Chamber in Saraje- vo, part of the Bosnia-Herzego- vina state charged with hearing war crimes cases from the for- mer Yugoslavia. Having been involved with international work in several forums since 1991, Whalen most recently represented the In- ternational Association of Wom- en Judges (IAW)) in the draft- ing of a treaty at The Hague for the international enforcement of child support. While in The Netherlands, she had the oppor- tunity to observe several other IAW] judges serving on the War Crimes Tribunal at The Hague, which sparked her interest in working internationally as a judge. Airborne Teacher Trust Fund grants available A nonprofit and charitable corporation that helps support art and music education, the Airborne Teacher Trust Fund awards grants of $200 to $10,000 to assist teachers in implementing these vital pro- grams. As of August 1, 2007, teachers in all 50 states can apply for these grants. Now entering its second year, the Airborne Teacher Trust Fund is the vision of Victoria Knight-McDowell, a former second-grade teacher and cre- ator of Airborne Health Formu- la. The public is invited to bring quilts, parts of quilts at any stage, and even sewing ma- chines and join with others to make quilts for the families.
