Bobcats lose yet another heartbreaker C TEAM Swoyersville Sailors 26 Bobcats 16 The Back Mountain Bobcats suffered yet another disappointing loss last Sunday on their home field when they came up on the short end of a 26-16 score against the Swoyersville Sailors. On the opening kickoff, Bobcat Cameron Brennan returned to ball to the 42-yard line. Bob Oakley and Brennan both had great runs to give the Bobcats a first down and, on third down, Oakley broke through the Sail- or defense and scored for the Bobcats. Steve Darling ran the ball to complete the 2-point conversion to put the Bobcats up, 8-0. The Sailors drove down the field, despite some great tackles by Stone Mannello, AJ Spears, Zack Haddle, Darling, and Oakley. The Sailors scored and completed the 21- point conversation, tying the score at 8-all. Devon Dickson returned the Sailor kick to the 43-yard line and Oakley ran the ball on the Bobcats’ next three possessions, grabbing a first down for his team. The starting offensive line of Andy Shaver, Dan Sweeney, Chris Menning, Owen Morgan, Chris Allen and Devon Dickson were block- ing for quarterback Stone Mannello on a quarterback keep play for a gain of two yards. Run attempts by Oakley and Darling were not enough for a Bobcat first down and the Kingston Township boys were forced to turn the ball over on downs . Defensively, Marcus Steele, Charlie Kuschke and Danny Schnable aided Chris Menning on a tackle for a loss for the Sailors but the Sailors managed to score again. A tackle by Mannello made for an incomplete 2-point conversion, putting the Sailors ahead, 14-8. Devon Dickson returned the ball to the Bobcat 46-yard line. Bob Oakley ran through the gut of the Sailor defense, scor- ing for the Bobcats. Bobcats Bo Butler, Erik Sweppenheiser and Zack Gable blocked for Oakley to com- plete the 2-point conversion for the Bob- cats, bringing the Bobcats within two, 16- 14. Oakley kicked off to the Sailors and Zach Haddle and Chris Menning had great tack- les on defense late in the second quarter. Swoyersville swung to the outside, though, and scored again. Again, Mannello had an awesome tackle to stop the 2-point conver- sion but the Sailors went ahead, 20-16. On the Bobcats’ next possession, Chris Menning returned the kick to the 55-yard line. On the next two plays, quarterback sprints by Mannello brought up a Bobcat first down. Two completed passes by Man- nello to Steve Darling put the Bobcats on the 24-yard line but time ran out to the half. In the third quarter, Charlie Kuschke kicked the ball to the Sailors and, although great tackles were made by Spears, Men- ning, Mannello, Darling and Oakley, the Sailors still managed to score. For the third time, Mannello stopped the run for a failed 2-point conversation, but the Sailors went ahead, 26-16. On the Bobcats’ next possession, RJ Dris- coll ran the ball for a gain of six yards. The Bobcats fumbled the ball on the next play, only to have it recovered by the Sailors. Great defense by Darling, Spears and Had- dle forced the Sailors to turn the ball over on downs.
