DALLAS HARVEST FESTIVAL TOGETHER Continued from page 4 After one successful festival, the committee agreed to expand and enhance the event. In 2004, an outing — called the Dallas Days Dance — was held at Irem Temple Country Club the night before the festival. When the country club was unavailable on Saturday evening for the 2005 event, the Dallas Days Dance was moved to Stax and Company. Stax was closed by the 2006 festival so the Dallas Days Dance returned to Irem, but was held on Friday night before the festival. The original Starfires played the Dal- las Days Dance the first three years. This year, the Dallas Days Dance will be held on Friday night, Sept.14, at the Irem Tem- ple Country Club featuring the folk group, “Just Us” and the country rock group, “Abilene.” Word Horde was also added in 2004, gathering many different types of performers to entertain audiences at the Back Mountain Memorial Library. Other attrac- « tions and contests have been add- ed over the years, including the professional chili contest, Open Mic Night, a flower box competi- tion among businesses on Main Street, Harvest Fest Idol and more. New for 2007 are the Harvest Vegetable Contest, Amateur Chi- li Contest and the Dallas Days Sidewalk Sale. Each year the Dallas Harvest Festival attracts 5,000 to 7,000 people and the Dallas Days Dance brings in 250 to 500 guests. According to Moskovitz, the annual Dallas Harvest Festival costs Dallas Borough about $10,000. To help offset the ex- pense, a new committee was formed this year to secure money from sponsors. Through sponsor- ship, the cost of this year’s festiv- al has been cut in half. Moskovitz said the festival al- lows residents to see old friends and make new ones. Marion Welliver, of Stillwater, sold her own home grown produce at the festival.
