PAGE6 THE POST OBITUARIES Sunday, April 15, 2007 GEORGE J. URBANIS Owner/operator of Johnnie's Bar by George George J. Urbanis, 82, of Tunkhannock, died April 7, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater, where he earned many decorations. Fol- lowing his military service, he attended the University of Wis- consin, Madison, where he played center on the varsity Badgers football team. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in dairy science in 1949. During his career in the agri- cultural chemicals industry, he held a variety of executive posi- tions, including vice president of marketing for Occidental Petroleum Co., New York City. He also worked for Gulf & Western, New Jersey Zinc Co. and International Minerals and Chemicals Corp. Later, he owned and operat- ed Keystone Harvestore Sys- tems Inc. and Johnnie’s Bar by George, both in Tunkhannock. He retired from the American General Insurance Co., Plains Township. He is survived by his wife, the former Ramona Burke, to whom he was married for 23 years; two daughters, Mary Baldwin, Honesdale; and Nan- cy Urbanis and husband Ste- phen Fairchild, Sugar Run; son, Terrance P. Urbanis, Warren- ton, Ore.; four grandchildren; four stepdaughters, Pamela Ya- rasavage, Tunkhannock; De- nise and husband, David Loh- mann, Harveys Lake; Romana (Liz) Tyler, Tunkhannock; and Colleen and husband Tim Frantz, Tunkhannock; stepson, Thomas and wife, Sandy Hill, Tunkhannock; 22 step-grand- children. Later, she was the driving force behind the family busi- nesses, the Red Rooster Res- taurant and Mel Roe’s Family Restaurant, which was named in her honor. RICHARD S. KAPSON Dallas High School graduate was master tiler Richard S. Kapson, formerly of Dallas, died March 31, 2007 in Port Orange, Fla. He was a graduate of Dallas High School and a former member of Dallas United Methodist Church. Schneeman, 69, of Dallas, died April 3, 2007 at Kindred Hospital after compli- cations from a lengthy illness. Dr. Schneeman earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctor of philosophy degrees in En- glish from the University of Minnesota. He began teaching English at the University of Minnesota and Kent State University and then became an associate pro- fessor of rhetoric, English liter- ature and fiction writing at Penn State University for more than 30 years before retiring. He was awarded fellowships for residency at Yaddo in Sara- toga Springs, N.Y. in 1973 and 1980. In 1978-79, he held a se- nior Fulbright lectureship in American literature at the Uni- versity of Bucharest and in 1980 he received a fellowship for fiction writing from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In 1985, he earned Penn State’s Liberal Arts Outstand- ing Teaching Award. He was the author of numer- ous published short stories and was a founding member of the Bellefonte Historical and Cul- tural Association. He restored the Civil War-era Brockerhoff Mill in Bellefonte, Pa. in which he at one time resided. He is survived by his wife, Kate Brennan; daughters, Kris- tin Schneeman, Washington, D.C; Andrea Spooner, New York City; five grandchildren; stepdaughter, Blake Ann Sult, Santa Rosa, Calif; stepson, Bruce Justin Nagle, Dallas; one step-grandson; two step-grand- daughters. EASTER VIGIL CELEBRATED AT PRINCE OF PEACE The Great Vigil of Easter was celebrated at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church beginning with an outdoor ceremony of lighting a new fire. The Paschal candle was lighted, followed by a procession into the church. The service continued with reading of the Scriptures, a renewal of baptismal vows, and a Holy Eu- charist.
