Dallas Lodge No. 531made a $750 donation from its charity fund to the Back Mountain Food Panty at its April stated meeting. The donation will assist the Back Mountain Food Pantry in purchasing additional food for needy families in the community. The donation was made possible from the proceeds from the George M. Dallas Lodge No 531 charity breakfast held March 11 at the Dallas American Legion. Street sweeping to begin in Dallas The Dallas Borough Road Department is holding its an- nual spring street sweeping program. The program is ex- pected to begin immediately, weather permitting, and will continue until all borough roads have been cleaned. The department requests residents follow a few simple instructions to assist the staff in the collection of road cinders and winter materials deposited throughout the winter driving season. Residents are asked to rake all cinders to the side of the road in even layers, avoiding large piles and under no circum- stances should cinders be swept into the storm water catch ba- sins. Property owners should not fill containers with cinders in excess of 20-25 pounds as collec- tion is made more difficult. Heavy containers may not be picked up. Rocks, limbs and yard waste should not be in- cluded for pick up with the street cinders and green recy- cling containers should not be placed curbside. Rotary Ambassador scholarship available Scholarships for Rotary Am- bassadors are available for resi- dents or students at an institu- tion of higher education in Ro- tary District 7410, which con- sists of Luzerne, Bradford, Carbon Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Students must have completed two years of college. The scholarship may be used at a university in any of the 170 countries in the world that have Rotary Clubs, other than the home country of the applicant. Scholarship applications must be submitted through a Rotary Club in District 7410. The Rotary Club will forward the completed application with a recommendation to the dis- trict scholarship committee by May 21. The committee will interview applicants in early June 2007 and send a recom- mendation to the Rotary Foun- dation, which will award the_ scholarship and assign the scholar to a university from among those listed by the appli- cant. Library selling engraved bricks The Back Mountain Memorial Library is selling engraved brick pavers for the outdoor entry area at the library on Huntsville Road in Dallas. The personally engraved bricks make a wonderful gift or memorial for an entire family, or for a special individual. Bricks are available for $100 each, which includes up to three lines of engraving. Meadows Auxiliary seeking new members The Auxiliary of The Mead- ows Nursing Center in Dallas is holding its annual membership drive. Memberships are open to all residents of the community. Memberships cost $8, but larger donatiotis aré accepted. Each year, the Auxiliary do- nates thousands of hours of volunteer service at the center and donates funds for special projects, activities and equip- ment.
