Sunday, December 10, 2006 CHURCH THE POST PAGE 7 CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT CONCERT SET FOR DEC. 17 ~ The Shavertown United Methodist Church Fine Arts Series will present its annual Carols by Candlelight concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 at the church on Pioneer Avenue. The concert will feature carol singing accompanied by the Anthracite Brass Quartet, hand bells, piano and organ. The chancel choir, guest singers and four of the other choirs from the church will also perform. A reception will follow the concert and a free will offering will be received. THERESE’S CHURCH WINS PENNY WARS FUNDRAISER St. Therese's Church in Shavertown was recently named the winner in the above 1,000 member category in the seventh annual Penny Wars for the Poor fundraiser. The event raises money each year to benefit the Commission on Economic Opportunity’s “Ending Childhood Hunger” cam- paign. St. Therese's competed against churches with more than 1,000 members. Mount Zion Church was the winner among churches with less than 1,000 members. St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Dallas was also among the more than one dozen churches to participate.
