Dr. Kilduff is an internal medicine specialist and member of the Pennsylvania Osteo- pathic Association and the American Osteopathic Association. The son of Tom Kilduff of Dallas is a graduate of Dallas High School, where he was a member of the varsity golf team. Kilduff graduated: magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biology from East Stroudsburg Uni- versity. He received a master’s degree in physical therapy from Hahnemann University, and earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadel- phia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Salam appointed to new position Dallas resident Marguerite Salam, M.D. has been appointed director of laboratory medicine for Geisinger’s Northeast Region. Dr. Salam has been the medical director of pathology at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. Salam will lead the combined pathol- ogy doctoral staff at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and Geisinger Wyoming Valley and will serve as the medical director of the hospital laboratories at those facilities. She will also have a broader regional laboratory leadership while continuing her practice and com- mittee roles at Geisinger South Wilkes- Barre. Salam earned her bachelor of science degree in biology from Lebanon Valley College in Annville. She completed a post-sophomore fellowship in patholo- gy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she also earned her Doctor of Medicine degree. Salam is a member of several orga- nizations, including serving on the board of trustees of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute. She resides in Dallas with her husband and two children. Payne to speak at CM convocation Wyoming resident David Payne Jr., director of PNC Capital Markets and vice chairman of the Greater Wilkes- Barre Chamber of Commerce will be the keynote speaker at College Miser- icordia’s annual convocation ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the Wacho- via Amphitheater on campus. Payne is a 1985 cum laude graduate of College Misericordia, receiving a bachelor of science degree in business. He also received a master’s degree in business administration degree and finance from the University of Scranton and holds a graduate banking degree from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware. The College Misericordia communi- ty has been a part of his family’s life for more than 40 years. His father, the late professor David Payne Sr., served the college for 37 years as a member of the English department and in other roles prior to his retirement in August 2004. His sister, Ellen McLaughlin, is associ- ate professor and chairwoman of the occupational therapy department at College Misericordia. Payne is a committee member of the Dallas School District’s long range planning committee, as well as a mem- ber of the finance committee at St. Therese’s Church in Shavertown. Convocation is the official start of the academic year at College Miser- icordia. Payne will speak to the faculty, staff and the 320 members of the fresh- man class, who will move into resi- dence halls. Bozinski named director of admissions Kingston Township resident Glenn Bozinski was recently named director of admissions at College Misericordia. Bozinski will oversee all admissions operations for full-time undergraduate students, as well as work with the executive director, members of the faculty and staff members on various recruitment and academic initiatives. Since 1989, Bozinski has served as admissions counselor, coordinator of transfer recruitment, director of trans- fer recruitment and most recently as associate director of admissions and director of transfer recruitment at College Misericordia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Com- munication and a master’s degree in organizational management from Col- lege Misericordia. He lives in Kingston Township with his wife, Laura, and their daughter, Madalyn. SCHOOL BRIEFS EMT-basic course begins Aug. 30 The Luzerne County Community College Public Safety Training In- stitute will hold an EMT-basic course at the Kunkle Volunteer Fire Co.’s community hall, Route 309 in Dallas beginning Wednesday, Aug. 30. Classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and alternate Thursdays through Wednesday, Jan. 24. The EMT-basic course covers all techniques of emergency medical care considered within the responsibilities of the EMT, as well as operational aspects of the job which EMTs will be expected to perform. The course is designed for individu- als with a desire to provide emergency medical care with an ambulance ser- vice or other pre-hospital rescue ser- vice, routinely providing emergency care. Anyone who wishes to enroll in the course is required to read, write and have good oral command of the English language. Participants must be 16 years of age prior to taking the state certification exams that are scheduled for the course. The cost of the program is $135. SAT review class begins Aug. 29 Penn State Wilkes-Barre, in coop- eration with Cambridge Education Services, Inc., will hold a review class for the Scholastic Aptitude Test from 6-9 p.m. for seven weeks each Tuesday beginning Aug. 29 at the campus in Lehman Township. The course will cover prepara- tion for the critical reading/writing and math exams and will include a sample essay for the writing com- ponent. The course is designed to provide information on the current format of the SAT and will provide students with test-taking tech- niques. Topics will address increased reading comprehension and strate- gies for sentence completion for the critical reading section. The writing component will cover grammar and mechanics and effec- tive essay writing. Students will be introduced to a math grid and learn when to use a calculator on the test. Instructors will also cover the advantages and disadvantages of guessing. The cost of the class is $289 for critical reading and math or $149 one of the two subjects. Wyoming Seminary ready for school year Wyoming Seminary will begin its 163rd year of classes at the end of the month. The Upper School in Kingston will register boarding and day students during the day on Sunday, Aug. 27 and Monday, Aug. 28 for grades 9-12 and postgraduate. New students will par- ticipate in orientation activities both days and freshmen will attend a special Freshman Retreat on Aug. 28. On Tuesday, Aug. 29, a special open- ing of school convocation service will be held at the upper school. Senior class president Jacqueline Thomas of Dallas will ring the historic Cokesbury bell 16 times, one for each decade of Wyoming Seminary’s existence, to usher in the new academic year. - The Lower School, located in Forty Fort, will begin its first day of classes Monday, Aug. 28 with convocation for students in grades preschool through eighth grade. Orientation for new Lower School middle-school students will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Mon- day, Aug. 21 and an Open House for new preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students and their par- ents will be held from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. Parent-Teacher group set events at GOH The Gate of Heaven Parent Teacher Group will hold two back-to-school events for the 2006-07 school year. Family members of all registered stu- dents are invited to attend “Back to School Night” on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the school on Machell Avenue in Dal- las. The time of the event will be an- nounced at a later date. The event will begin with a PTG meeting, followed by classroom break- outs, introducing parents to their stu- dent’s classroom, homeroom teacher, and upcoming academic pursuits. Parents of all students — including those in the preschool, elementary and middle school — are encouraged to attend. An ice cream social will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at the school. The event is open to current and pro- spective students and families. Teach- ers, staff and parents will be on hand to scoop ice cream and greet families.
