Sunday, August 20, 2006 OBITUARIES THE POST PAGES ANNA MARIA BOYLE One of original members of Gate of Heaven Church Anna Maria Boyle, 95, of the Berwick Retirement Village, for- merly of Dallas, was welcomed into eternal life on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006. Mrs. Boyle was born in Wilkes-Barre, May 27, 1911, and was a daughter of the late Wil- liam and Josephine (Pacavsky) Boback. She was one of the orig- inal members of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, where she was actively involved. Mrs. Boyle en- joyed life and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed playing bingo, going fishing, watching baseball games, eating ice cream, telling jokes, being with her dogs and so much more. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her and will live in our hearts and memories forever until we meet again. Anna was preceded in death by her son, William; brothers, William, Joseph, John and Mi- chael Boback; sisters, Carolyn Skokan and Mary Boback; and an infant grandson, Eric Boyle. GARRITY Dallas native, Gate of Heaven Church member William J. Garrity, 85, of Dal- las, and formerly of Philadel phia, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006 at Highland Manor, Exeter. Born in Philadelphia, Sept. 4, 1920, he was a son of the late Ed- ward and Sarah (Maloney) Gar- rity. He was a graduate of St. Thomas More High School and was a member of their alumni association. Prior to retirement, Garrity was an operations man- ager with the Pennsylvania Rail- road. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church. In addition to his parents, William was pre- ceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine Bonner, who died in 2000; brothers Edward, the Rev. Howard and Raymond; sister Sarah Gilmore. He is survived by his daughter Mary G. Slaby, and her husband, John, Dallas; daughter Ann C. Winkler and her husband, Char- les, Lansford; grandchildren Melissa Slaby and John Garrett Slaby. BILLINGS Member of Trucksville United Methodist Church Frank H. Billings, 83, Trucks- ville, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at ManorCare Health Service, Kingston, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dis- ease. Born in Trucksville, March 22, 1923, he was a son of alter and Mabel (Totten) Billings. He was a member of Trucksville United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a brother, Glen; a sis- ter, Edna Harris. Interment, Memorial Shrine Cemetery in Carverton. ALBERT C. IDE Lehman native, active member of community Albert C. Ide, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away Friday, July 21, 2006. He was born Sept. 25, 1909 in Lehman, to Russell A. and Elizabeth Ide. After at- tending Lehman area schools and Penn State University, he went to work for NEPA and al- so drove school buses. Albert was a member of the Lehman Methodist Church and an ac- tive member of the community until retiring to Arizona. Albert was preceded in death in addition to his par- ents, by his wife, Frances; son Richard Dana; sister Grace Ide; sister-in-law Jean Deans; and brother in law Donald Deans. Joel Magill, RSM, 90, a member of the Dallas Re- * gional Community of the Sis- ters of Mercy of the Americas, died Monday, August 14, 2006, at Mercy Center, Dallas. The former Grace Magill was born March 4, 1916, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late William and Grace Ferry Magill. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas on Septem- ber 8, 1934, and professed her vows on March 12, 1935. Sr. Joel left full-time teach- ing to enter the prayer ministry in 1988 and also served as a tu- tor for the Mercy Institute of Educational Development at Mercy Center. She was preced- ed in death by her brother, Wil- liam Magill. Surviving are sisters Mary A. Nicholson, 69, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2006, in the Wilkes- Barre General Hospital. His wife of 36 years is Eleanor A. (Hughes) Nicholson of Dallas. Born June 29, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Paul and Helen (Wood- eschick) Nicholson. He was a graduate of Hanover Township Public High School. He attend- ed Wilkes University and the Wyoming Valley Chapter of American Institute of Banking, where he served as president. He was an assistant vice presi- dent for United Penn Bank in Ashley and Dallas. He was a member of the George M. Dal- las Masonic Lodge 531, Free & Accepted Masons. He was a member of the Caldwell Con- sistory AASP, Bloomsburg. He served in the Irem Shrine as Potentate in 1995 and be- longed to the Cabiri, an organi- zation of Past Potentates Board. He was chairman of the Back Mountain Memorial Li- brary Auction for the past two years. He also was a member of the Dallas Lions Club. He was an active member of the Larks- ville United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the administrative board. He was an avid sports fan of Penn State, the Phillies and the Eagles. He loved his cocker spaniel dog, Davey. Surviving, in addition to his devoted wife, Eleanor, are sev- eral cousins and many caring friends and neighbors. WILLIAM JOHNS World War II veteran William Johns, 84, of Dallas, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospi- tal. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Oct. 15, 1921, a son of the late Elias and Mary (Mussery) Johns. He was a graduate of Meyers High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines with Field Artillery Battalion Bat- tery A 789th. William was a member of Landmark Lodge 442 for over 50 years and was a former treasurer of the Irem Temple Shrine Shepherd's Unit. He retired from a career with the Don Wilkinson Agen- cy where he worked for over 50 years. MARY RYAN Entered Sisters of Mercy, Dallas, in 1933 Sister Mary Arnoul Ryan, RSM, 91, a member of the Dal- las Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Amer- icas, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Mercy Center, Dallas. The former Gartha Helena Ryan was born Oct. 29, 1914, in Carthage, N.Y., a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Marie Denno Ryan. She entered the Sisters of Mercy at Dallas on Aug. 2,1933, and made her pro- fession of vows on March 12, 1936. A longtime teacher at area schools, she managed the gift shop at the Mercy Center for five years. Sr. Arnoul entered the prayer ministry in 2000. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd and Arnoul Ryan. FRED PRICE Owned C&J Sporting Goods in Shavertown Fred (Freddy) Price, 65, of Shavertown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006. Born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 12, 1940, he was a son of the late Raymond Francis and Genevieve Mae Honeywell Price. He was preceded in death by his sister, Reba Cobleigh. Sur- viving are his wife, Cindy; daughters Jill Marie Price, Sha- vertown; Pam Bonomo and her husband, Tony, Sweet Valley; Kim Martinson and her hus- band John, Norwich, N.Y.; son, Joe Kochanski and his wife Al- lison, Hanover Township; grandchildren Joshua (Little Buddy), Zachary, Kristen and Kasey; sister Mildred Lavelle Wheeler; numerous nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army.
