PAGE6 THE POST SCHOOL Sunday, April 23, 2006 BISHOP O'REILLY TO PRESENT SPRING CONCERT The music department at Bishop O'Reilly High School will present its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23 at the school in Kingston. More than one-third of the 200-member glee club, 40-member chamber choir and 16-member folk group are Back Mountain residents. The highlight of the concert will be the senior waltz, performed to “Annie's Song” by John Denver. The senior farewell song is “Saying Goodbye” from the Muppets Take Manhattan. Thomas Hanlon is the choral group director, while Susanne Motyka directs the six-piece instrumental ensemble. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. PGS nV 4 REINERT WINS V1 HISTORY DAY COMPETITION SCHOOL BRIEFS ) Summer Fun Night at Dallas Elementary The Dallas Elementary School will hold “Summer Fun Night" from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 in the school cafeteria. The school is located on Hilde- brandt Road in Dallas. Spon- sored by the Dallas Elementary School Parent-Teacher Orga- nization, the event is open to the public. More than 50 local businesses and organizations will be present with information about summer programs for children of all ages. There will also be free drawings. Gardening course available April 29 Spring Into Gardening, a home gardener’s educational event featuring six presentations, will be held at © a.m. Saturday, April 29 in the Science Building at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman Township. Registration will be held from 8:30-9 a.m. in the Science Building. The event is being hosted by Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Luzerne County and the Luzerne Conservation District. Some of the topics to be discussed are the affect animals in your back yard may have on the landscape, weeds and wildflowers, cutting trees, compost, plant nutrients, and the affect droughts may have on the landscape. The guest speakers include Mary Pat Appel, Luzerne County Master Gardener coordinator; and Vince Sweeney and Roberta Troy, Luzerne County Master Gardeners. The registration fee is $15, which includes a box lunch. To register for the event, or for more information, call 825-1701. Film series at PSU W-B Penn State Wilkes-Barre is holding its “Film, Food and Fun Facts” series at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday in the science build- ing on the campus in Lehman Township. The film screenings, which are open to the public, look at the contribution of Northeastern Pennsylvanians have made to the film industr The series is offered in the spring and fall at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and is moderated by Penn State.communication arts instructor Bill Bachman.
