Eh —.—___ esr’rr— - 9 The Dallas Post SCHOOL Sunday, July 3, 2005 Joanna Smith Joanna Smith attends leadership conference Joanna Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Smith of Shavertown, attended the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida on June 22 to 28. At the conference, she served as Pennsylvania's entrant in the Public Speaking II event, as well as being a con- ference delegate. A senior at Bishop O'Reilly High School, ‘Joanna has many interests and was involved in numerous school activities. A member of FBLA for four years (serving as president during her senior year), she placed first in public speaking at the state confer- ence, after multiple regional and state citations over her high school years. She was also captain of the school’s forensics team, partic- ipating in state and national competitions over the past four years. Joanna will attend St. Joseph’s University in the fall, and plans to enter law school after graduation. She is a member of Gate of Heaven Parish in Dallas. Ross Elementary sixth grade awards Ross Elementary sixth grade students were recently honored at an award ceremony. Many students received awards for educational achievement, cho- rus, band, art and physical fit- ness. Justin Cornell was chosen overall by his classmates for the citizenship. award. This award represents academic achieve- ment, honesty, respect, cooper- ation, responsibility, effort and leadership. Kris Carter received the highest academic average per subject in language arts, sci- ence, math and social studies. Kris also had the highest over- all grade point average for the boys. The following students received. the President’s Award For Excellence (Honor roll for all four marking periods): Lily Calkins, Justin Cornell, Patricia Farrell, Devin Fine, Alex Lubinski, Emily Mras, Kametrie Saxe, Brady Sutliff, Jesse Hauze, Sara Hagenbach, Allie Kachapurdize, Caitlyn Wright, Avery DeFranco, Kristen Baker, Thomas Bedford and Kris Carter. The following students received the President’s Award for Educational Achievement: Bryan Mathers, Dylan Wasylyk, Ryan Bonk, Dan Precone, Jamie Aldrich, David Chappel and Allison Smith. Claire Evans receives Sem Service Award Wyoming Seminary recently awarded Claire Conlon Evans, of Dallas, the Joseph C. Donchess Distinguished Service Award, an annual award for people who have demon- strated exceptional service to the community and Wyoming Seminary, or who have achieved significant accom- plishments in their professions. Evans was one of three peo- ple to receive the award. It is the highest honor bestowed by the Wyoming Seminary Board of Trustees on behalf of every- one associated with the school. It expresses appreciation for the life and example, sacrifices and devotion of those who are hon- ored. Evans graduated from Wyoming Seminary in 1952. She served as the Director of Alumni Programs from 1984 to 1992, and as a special assistant in the Development Office from 1994 until her retirement in 2003. Students receive President’s Educational Excellence Award Wyoming Seminary Upper School recently presented sen- iors with the President’s Educational Excellence Award during the school’s Awards Day assembly. The award is given to gradu- ating seniors who have attained an A- average or equivalent dur- ing their junior and senior years, and who have received a score placing them at or above the 85th percentile on any nationally recognized college admissions examination, such as the SAT or ACT. - Five Wyoming Seminary Lower School students recently dis- played their artwork at the Fine Arts Fiesta, held on Public Square from May 19 to May 22. Students in grades five through eight were eligible to enter 2-D or 3-D original art works for judging. Submissions from Wyoming Seminary Lower School ranged from pen and ink drawings to oil pas- tel, collage and photography.
