PE & LAKE-LEHMAN Continued from Page 1 ceremony, expressing her grat- itude to the administration, parents and teachers. “You mean the world to us, even if we don’t say it.” The commencement address was given by Allan M. Brown, an athletic trainer, consultant and physical thera- pist who graduated from Lake-Lehman in 1974. He gave the seniors parting wis- dom on their days ahead, stressing the inevitability of change, and that it is okay to have “a good dose of butter- flies.” Valedictorian Skye Nickalls expressed a grateful goodbye to the Class of 2005. “I know I will never have to face any- thing alone because of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Lightening up the ceremo- ny, Salutatorian Caleb D. Piatt opened his speech by saying, “Charles Barkley once said ‘All second place represents is the first loser.” As salutatorian, and as a result, (I am) the first loser of the Lake-Lehman Class of 2005.” Awards were presented by Junior High School Principal Tracey Halowhich to Nickalls and Piatt, Marissa Mahle and Andrew Josuweit for the Red Jones Leadership award, Kristin Summa and Patrick McHugh for the Citizenship award, and Shannon Lazo for the Jake L. Nicholas Memorial Scholarship. After Superintendent Michael Healey presented the Class of 2005, the seniors were called one-by-one to receive a diploma. As names were announced the student’s family and friends roared their encouragement. Finally when the last name was announced, the students threw their caps in the air, and were forever free from high school.
