9 The Dallas Post SPORTS/SCHOOL Sunday, May 1, 2005 Safe at third FOR THE POST/CHARLOTTE BARTIZEK @ Miller of Lake-Lehman reached third base safely, as Wyoming Seminary’s Olivia arquart reached for the ball during a junior high softball game held April 26. VANDALISM Continued from Page 7 items also are being used as tar- gets, causing an extensive litter problem, not to mention unsafe conditions for other shooters.” The Northeast Region Office maintains seven shooting ranges throughout its 13-coun- ty coverage area. These facili- ties are maintained by land management employees and open year round for public use. “Were asking anyone who witnesses any unlawful or unsafe act on this, or any other of our public ranges to call us immediately, Larnerd said. “We need the assistance of sports- men and sportswomen to help us apprehend the individuals @:-vonsive for these senseless acts. “Regulations are posted at all agency-owned ranges, and shooters are expected to abide by these rules,” Larnerd said. “Those who don’t, will be cited and required to pay for dam- ages they caused to the range. They may even lose their hunt- ing and trapping privileges within the state for at least one year.” Shooting ranges on State Game Lands are purchased and maintained from the sale of hunting and trapping licenses and with federal grant monies from the Pitman-Robertson Act, which is funded by a feder- al excise tax on sporting arms and ammunition. “With the current financial strain the agency is experienc- ing, our budgetary spending for maintaining ranges is extreme- ly tight,” said Tim Conway, Northeast Region Information and Education Supervisor. “There is barely enough money to keep these ranges open through routine maintenance. If this vandalism continues, we may be forced to shut ranges down entirely. This is some- thing we'd rather not do, and that’s why we're asking hunters to help us put a stop to this van- dalism.” Anyone with information may call the Northeast Region office at 675-1143 or 1-877-877- 9357, or send an e-mail to TCONWAY @state.pa.us U-11 girls travel tryouts Tryouts for the Back Mountain Spirit U-11 girls travel soccer team will be held Friday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. each day, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas.
