The council is a non-profit organization that is striving to ance and improve the eco- ®lgical, cultural and economic characteristics of the Pocono Northeast Region through vari- ous projects and programs. The council is currently looking to assist local communities with installing dry-hydrants for fire protection within the council’s area, which includes Luzerne County. . A dry-hydrant is a permanent- ly installed self-draining stand- pipe system with a hard suction hose connection that a fire truck can attach its fire hoses to in order to withdraw water to fill its tank for fighting fires. The water source where dry- hydrants could be located could be a pond, lake, or stream depending on certain site char- acteristics. The council will assist the local communities by provid- ing dry-hydrant components worth $200, and up to $300 for additional materials needed towards the installation of the hydrant. The council will also provide a survey and design of the dry-hydrant installation site to the entity installing the hydrant.
