Lizza Studios will host an opening reception for Tavis1 World, and exhibit of work by artist/illustrator Tavis Teichman, today from 2 to 5 p.m. A prolific artist and illustrator, she devoted her life to painting almost to an obsession. Teichman began her career at the age of 3 under the tutelage of her artist father, Frank Abbott Palmer, in Northfield, New Jersey. Her extraordinary natural talent won a number of prizes in children’s art shows and at age 16 she had her first one- girl show in Atlantic City. Early in her career she held lucrative positions as a designer and commercial artist. Discontented with the acute limita- tions of the commercial art world, she began a long and fruitful period of experi- mentation. In June 1969 one of her Daisy Girl paintings appeared on the cover of Prevention Magazine. Many of her paint- ings are in prominent collections through- out the country. Tavis Teichman died in 1997 at 77. The exhibit will continue through March 5. Gallery hours are: Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 to 5.
