Catholic Youth Council plans luminary sales The Back Mountain Catholic Youth Council invites residents of the Back Mountain Community to join together on Christmas Eve in a “Lighting of the Luminaries” and a Prayer for World Peace. The tradition of lighting luminaries in front of homes and along driveways (votive candles placed in a small bag anchored with sand) goes back % 2000 years, when shepherds marked the way to the manger of the Christ Child with small bonfires. Council members are selling luminary packets (includes 12 votive candles, 12 small bags, packet of sand and World Prayer for Peace) on the two weekends before Christmas. Packets cost $6 each, or two for $10. Sales will take place after all Masses at the following churches: Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas; Our Lady of Victory Church, Harvey’s Lake; St. Frances X.
