Shaw of Dallas died Oct. 18, 2004, at Mercy Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. He is survived by his wife, Ella K. Howland. They celebrated 57 years of marriage on Aug. 23, 2004. Born in Mansfield on Oct. 4, 1918, he was a son of the late John and Leda (Knapp) Shaw. le Lt. Col. Shaw was a graduate of Mansfield High School. L.B.’s ; real education came from his life experiences including his ~ heroism in the military and his devotion to his farm, which L.B. bought as a very young man and maintained until the nd of his life. L.B. had a markable and distinguished ~ military career. He was truly of “The Greatest Generation.” L.B. enlisted with the 109th Field Artillery. He ; f f i § ¥ } k | i | ap, Camp Pendleton, Fort ragg, Camp Gordon and Fort Sill. As an enlisted soldier, he achieved the rank of first ser- geant. L.B. was selected and ~—graduated from Officer Training .School as a second lieutenant. L.B. saw combat during World War II in France beginning in 1944 as a forward air observer. After World War II, L.B. became an Air Force no officer and served with distinc- +o tion for many years retiring oi with the rank of lieutenant colonel. L.B. held various manufactur- +1 -ANg positions with New Process Gear, Church & Dwight and ~McMillian & Book. L.B. was a “““charter member of the ,. Tunkhannock Kiwanis Club. He was tireless in his efforts to jake the Wyoming County Fair success so the proceeds could be used to make numerous charitable and civic contribu- “tions. JOHN RADER Active in local organizations John “Jack” Rader of Harveys Lake passed away at his home Oct. 17, 2004, after a coura- geous battle with cancer. Jack was born in Kingston, a son of the late John and Helen (Kane) Rader. His wife is the former Annette Setkoski of Edwardsville. They just cele- brated their 30th wedding anniversary on Sept. 28th. Jack was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1952. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. Before retiring, Jack was a fore- man for Royer Industries, Pringle Street, Kingston, since 1974. Upon retiring, he worked part time for The Kirby House, Wilkes-Barre. Jack was a mem- ber of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Lake Silkworth; the Harvey’s Lake American Legion, Post 967; and had served as past Grand Commander of the Alhambra Caravan 4, Wilkes-Barre; and also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. His strong spirit and love of life will always be in our hearts, and he will be deeply missed by his loving wife, fami- ly and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Kristine and her husband, David Hilstolsky, Wyoming; Dena and her hus- band, Joseph Kush Jr., Dallas; grandchildren, David, Matthew and Christian Hilstolsky and Chelsey and Jessica Kush. Bulford, 83, of Foster Street, Dallas, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Robert and Agnes (Cook) Bulford. He was a graduate of Kingston Township High School. He was self-employed in refrigeration. He attended Dallas United Methodist Church, and was a World War II veteran serving with the Army Air Corps. He was a member of Dallas Fire and Ambulance Inc. and Daddow Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Stella Misson; sons, Donald S., Atlanta; Douglas J., Shavertown; daugh- ter, Debra S. Carey, Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren, six great- grandchildren. CLARENCE DEWOLFE U.S. Navy veteran Clarence A. DeWolfe of Jenkins Stark Road, Tunkhannock, died Oct. 14, 2004, in Mercy Hospital, Scranton. He was born in Mehoopany on Jan. 25, 1928, the son of the late Leo and Blanche (Crompton) DeWolfe. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII; a member of the Mehoopany V.EW. Post 3583, Tunkhannock; Dennis Strong American Legion Post and the Tunkhannock Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Garnett) DeWolfe. Surviving are sons, Arden of Tunkhannock; Eric of Kutztown; Leonard of Mehoopany; daughter, Barbara Yurksza, of Tunkhannock; five granddaughters; and 13 great- grandchildren. She was a member of the East Dallas United Methodist Church. Mrs. Oney was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Amos. Interment, Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. LAWRENCE STURCHIO Retired letter carrier Lawrence Rocco Sturchio, age 60, of Sweet Valley, died Oct. 19, 2004, at home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 7, 1943, the son of Jean Belmont Sturchio, Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Rocco Lawrence Sturchio. He received a degree in English from Manhattan University and taught at Boys High School in Brooklyn. He was later employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring three years ago. A daughter, Yvette Brown, preceded him in death. She was a resident of Shavertown for the past five years and previously resided in Luzerne for many years. She was a graduate of Luzerne High School. Prior to retiring, she was employed in the local garment industry. Interment, St. Mary’s Byzantine Cemetery, Pringle. MICHAEL BRUCE DODSON Graduated from Dallas High School Michael Bruce Dodson, of Amarillo, Texas, died October 17, 2004. He was born May 10, 1954 in Meridian and was raised in Amarillo. He attended Canyon High School and graduated from Dallas High School in Dallas, Pa. in 1972. While attending Dallas High School, Bruce enjoyed singing in the school chorus as well as partici- pating in the drama program and football. He also attended West Texas State University. Bruce was a pilot for Diamond Shamrock before becoming a commercial pilot for Continental Airlines. He lived in San Antonio from 1983 until 1995 when he returned to Amarillo. He owned and oper- ated Elite Limousine Service and also owned and managed rental property in Amarillo. Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Dodson in 1979. He was survived by his beloved dog “Sam.” Other survivors include his son, Michael Anthony Dodson of Amarillo; parents, John M. and Bonnie Dodson of Amarillo, and Robert and Nancy Dingman of Dallas, Pa; former wife, and the mother of his son, Mary Ann Dodson of Amarillo; sisters, Gayle Tyler and Carrie Shankles of Amarillo; brothers, John E.
