Sunday. September 12, 2004 I POST 11 Church & Community PASTOR’S CORNER By Pastor Dennis Madeira New Life Community Church Is my faith strong enough? 1 of us from time to time wrestle with e reality of faith. By that I do not mean what denomination we belong to, but rather, how is our relationship with God? You know, what do we believe about Him? Do we trust Him? Do we talk to Him? Do we expect Him to talk to us? Someone might say, “I don’t believe in God. We are just here, how we got here is un- knowable, so we just make the best of it.” That thought may be sincerely held, and yet for all of us there are many times when we want to believe in something or Someone bigger than ourselves, something or Some- one who can help us, who cares about us no matter what we have done. There is a Some- one like that, and better than we can imag- ine. He is God. Where we get that knowledge is in the Bible. On the basis of the Bible there are many books written to help us know what He is like, and how to relate to Him. We are encouraged to “believe in Him,” to trust Him, and to call on Him for help in our lives. That process is faith. Faith is not something we conjure up. It is ¢. something we try to invent within our- ves to give us hope and peace, to help us get through the hard times. Faith is possible to us because God is, and He imparts faith to us because He loves us, and wants us to know Him. Paul says that “God has imparted to each a measure of faith.” (Romans 12:3) That faith is useable every day and in any circumstance. You can’t spend too much of it on God in one day so that you will not have enoughrfor the next. Why? Because faith is not based on who you are, but rather on who God is, and particularly on who Jesus is and what He did in His life. Hebrews 12:2 tells us that, “Jesus is the author and perfecter of faith.” Faith as God imparts it to us is based in the life of Jesus, the Son of God. God imparts to us some- 1 @®.: of His own character. God is faithful (2 othy 2:13), and this is the basis of our being able to believe in Him and trust Him for the forgiveness of our sins and for His guidance and care each day of our lives. Every day we have the opportunity to prove that the faith God has imparted to us is enough for all we have to deal with. It’s not “is my faith strong enough,” but God is strong enough to empower us so that we can handle the circumstances of life and trust Him to keep His words to us. As we read the Bible, pray, and act on His words, we will find that faith in God works, every day, all the time. Pastor’s Corner is a regular feature that ro- tates among leaders of Back Mountain churches. wi reserve a spot in the schedule, call 675- Gospel music at Trinity Presbyterian The Jacobs Brothers gospel music trio will perform at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 105 Irem Rd., Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. The concert is free.
