Martin, the 2003 Luzerne County Fair Queen. The award will be given to the 2004 queen in addition to a $500 U.S. Savings Bond do- nated by Pepsi-Cola and other prizes. Queen contestants must be single young women who live in Luzerne County between the ages of 16 and 20 on June 1, 2004. To obtain an application, call 675-1761. The deadline to enter is Aug. 27, and the queen will be selected Sept. 3. Candidates are judged on their accomplishments and achievements, their personality and knowledge of Luzerne County and the fair. Judging takes place in private inter- views, through an essay on the fair’s importance and through an original public service an- nouncement each candidate will present before an audience. They will also receive scores for poise, appearance and grooming. All entrants will receive prizes and certificates. The 2004 queen will represent Luzerne County at the state level competition in January, 2005. County Fair princess applications available The 2004 Luzerne County Fair Princess will be selected Saturday, Sept. 11 at the fair- grounds amphitheater. Female contestants must be between the ages of 6 and 12. All en- trants receive a prize, and each will appear on stage for a panel of judges, who will make their choice on interview, personali- ty and poise, grooming and the contestant’s knowledge of and ability to represent the fair. The winner receives a tiara and banner. The reigning princess is Tanner Englehart of Trucksville. To obtain an application form, call 675-1761. All entries must be received by Sept. 1. Library Halloween fundraiser welcomes support, volunteers The committee for the Back Mountain Memorial Library Halloween fundraiser, the Haunted Library, met recent- ly to formulate plans for the event. The Haunted Library will be presented October 22- 24 and October 29-30 in the basement of the library at a cost of $5 a person. Food and a bake sale will be available each night. There will also be face painting, children’s games and a maze. About 30 people are needed each night to work in various capacities. Interested adults may call the library at 675- 1182 to volunteer. A signup sheet is also posted in the li- brary. Donations of pumpkins, gourds, apples, baked goods, cornstalks, bales of hay, Hal- loween lights and decorations, and adult costumes are greatly appreciated. Lake Township tax office open Aug. 28 Lake Township school property and per capita tax bills were mailed to the address of property owners July 15. If taxes are paid by a mortgage company or bank, the property owner is responsi- ble for forwarding the bill to them. County and municipal taxes are now due at penalty value. The last day to pay all 2004 taxes is December 15. Kid festival will join Dallas Days The Back Mountain Business and Professional Association, in cooperation with the Dallas Days festival, will present the 2004 Children’s Festival on September 18 at College Misericordia from 1to4 p.m. Entertainment, music, games, and perhaps a few “surprises” will provide a wholesome day of activities for children up to 12 years old.
