Vacation Bible School this week Volunteers asked to attend preparation meeting today at noon. Children in the Back Moun- tain will participate in a com- munity-wide Vacation Bible School this week, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas. The “Back Mountain Commu- nity VBS” is co-sponsored by six area churches: St. Paul's Lutheran, Shavertown United Methodist, Trinity Presbyter- ian, Dallas United Methodist, Huntsville United Methodist and Prince of Peace Episcopal churches. The VBS theme is “Go For the Gold..Team Up With Je- sus!” Children will be divided into age groups and will rotate through five activity stations: Group Music, Hands-on Crafts, Outdoor Fun & Games, Make- Your-Own Snack and Bible Sto- rytime. Each activity will re- volve around a Bible verse and each day will feature a different guest pastor from one of the sponsoring churches. The Bible Storytime speak- ing schedule includes: Monday: Rev. Bill Lewis, Dallas United Methodist Church; Tuesday: Rev. Vivian Bennett, Prince of Peace Episcopal Church; Wednesday: Pastor Doug Clark, Shavertown United Methodist Church; Thursday: Rev. Mark Harper, Trinity Pres- byterian Church; and Friday: Rev. Concert, Fun Day at Dallas church A free instrumental concert series presented for the community by Fellowship Evangelical Free Church at its Family Life Center facility on the church campus at 45 Hildebrandt Rd., Dallas will conclude Saturday, August 21, with a performance at 8:30 p.m. by Emmy Award trumpeter Chiz Rider, who began playing at the age of 4 when he discovered his father’s high school instrument in a closet. At age 7 he made his concert debut, with national touring having begun during his last years in high school. He has recorded six albums since he was 15 years old in 1989. The church will also host a free “Family Fun Day” with games, food, a petting zoo, sumo wrestling and other entertainment, from 3 to 7 p.m. that day. There will also be a Guinness Book world record attempt for the “Most People Playing the Kazoo at One Time,” led by Chiz Rider. It’s easy to have your church included in Church Notes.
