Dennis Madeira New Life Community Church Codi Is for eyour family We hear much today about the condition of the American family. Most would agree that the concept of family is under a great deal of pressure, from defining what constitutes a fami- ly to individual needs and wants. What needs to be admitted first is that we have brought much of this pressure upon our- selves by the choices we make as families and individuals. There seems to be a “searching” mentality in all of us that drives us to attain and explain. With the idea of the American dream we strive to obtain those things which will help us attain that dream. Part of the prob- lem is that we cannot explain what the Ameri- can dream is. For many of us it is more and bet- ter things. So we choose to work harder and longer and spend more to obtain things that will make us feel better. Thus we create the pressure of debt that simply drives us to work harder and longer, thus dividing and driving the family members farther apart. Rather than define ourselves in the family by relationships, we define ourselves by things. Books abound that offer to help us find our- selves and real meaning in the family. Too often e ignore the book that can help us understand e family and its individual parts. That book is the Bible. The Bible is a book about families. Right here each one of us has a choice to make. Will we continue to define the family by the culture we live in (which is constantly changing), or will we go to God and the pages of the Bible to find purpose and a path, a plan and a peace for the family? God is for your family. Here is a great princi- ple for personal and family success. Put-as10-on: every member of your. family. God puts 2.10 on you. He created you and values you. It is-His- great desire to help your family and each mem- ber of it reach the potential He created it for. The ultimate outcome will be good for your family and all of society. Don’t be afraid to ask God hard questions. oubts and questions don’t bother the Lord. uring His earthly ministry Jesus encouraged a reasoning faith. Jesus never called for a faith that leaps in the dark. Jesus wants us to take a leap of faith into the light, into God’s purpose and help for us. The Lord has committed Him- self to you long before you were born, and He is not going to quit now. Will we decide to keep going by the changing attitudes and explanations of society around us, or will we go to God expecting Him to speak to -us and lead us? God says to us, “I have given you the plan for your life and family. It’s in the Bible. Trust me and I'll answer your questions as you search my Word. I'll give you the evi- dence you need. I promise to go with you.” Pastor’s Corner is a weekly feature that ro- tates among leaders of Back Mountain churches.
