Red Sox rack up a pair of big wins Mark Malloy picked up the complete game victory, scat- tering six hits and striking out five as the Sox beat the Ori- oles. 14-4. The Red Sox had a ‘balanced hitting attack led by Brandon Harding who had two hits, Scot Riccetti, a dou- ble and a single and Cody Plesnar doubled and singled. Eric Baines burned the Ori- oles for a double and Tanner Baloh also singled. The Ori- oles were led by Brandon Roberts who tripled and sin- gled. Red Sox 10, Astros 4 The trio of Matt Shaver, Cody Plesnar and Eric Baines combined for 13 strikeouts and allowed only three hits as the Red Sox improved their record to 13-3. Bained helped himself at the plate with a double, Shaver singled and doubled, while Plesnar dou- bled and scored twice. Drew Brandt pitched well in defeat for the Astros, striking out four. Chris Prater, Tony Bevevino and Chris Harper had the only hits for the As- tros. A’s 5, Orioles 0 Nick Lombard turned in a dominating one-hit, 12 strike- out performance to lead the A’s over the Orioles in a piv- otal BMT American game. In the win Lombard faced one over the minimum 18 Orioles batters. On offense Lombard led the way with two hits, while Andrew Mccabe, Aaron Perez, Andy Ondish and Matt Trautline chipped in one hit apiece. James Brown took the loss, striking out six batters. Adam Viercinski was the lone Oriole to reach base with a fourth in- ning single. Giants 13, Orioles 3 Chris Dailey, Kevin Cope, and Kevin Gilbert had three hits each as the Giants slammed the O’s. Adam Hole- na and Kyle Caffrey also had two hits each for the Giants. Kyle Caffrey went the distance recording six strikeouts and giving up two hits in the win. Field hockey notes Locals picked for national tournament Staff report Llocal players were recently selected to take part in the Na- tional Futures Tournament, set for July 1-4 in Virginia Beach, Va. Futures is the US. Field Hockey’s developmental pro- gram. Individuals started with instruction at local sites, the participated at a regional tour- nament. Local players took part in a regional tournament at, Lehigh University involving players from Pennsylvania in May, where individuals were select to take part in U19, U16 and Ul4 competition at the National Futures Tournament. Included were: Paige Selens- ki of Shavertown, Kelsey Amy of Sweet Valley, Laura Eckman of Shavertown and Traci Ragukas of Sweet Valley. Selected as alternates were Kelsey Lloyd of Shavertown, Tara Puffenberger of Dallas, Amanda Sagan of Dallas and Shannon Prescott of Harveys Lake. Morrison headed to [UP Tunkhannock Area High School graduate Jamie Morri- son recently announced she plans to continue her academic and athletic pursuits at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Morrison recorded four goals and six assists this past season for the Tigers, who qualified for the District 2 Class 3A playoffs. IUP, a Division II school, is a member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
