12 The Post SCHOOL Sunday, December 21, 2003 DMS slates physicals The Dallas Middle School nurse’s office announces that the sixth grade physicals will be given to all students on January 15, 2004, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to be present. Parents who choose to have the examination done by their personal physi- cian must submit the physical report to the nurse by January 5, 2004. Spring sports physicals will be held on February 5 and February 12 at 8:30 a.m. Parent permission forms are available in the school office and must be completed and returned to the nurse prior to the examination. Any student who plans to play baseball, softball, or track and field in the spring is required to have a physical before attending the first day of practice. Perfect scores on math SAT Dallas High School recently recognized Michael Swartwood and Joseph Bednash for attaining perfect math scores (800) on the SAT. The Stock Market Game is a 10-week simulation during which students from three grade categories (4-6, 7-8, 9- 12) invest an imaginary $100,000 by buying stocks list- ed on the major securities ex- changes. Students who com- pete in the game learn how fi- nancial markets operate and hone their mathematics and decision making skills. Sepa- rate competitions are held in the fall and spring. Team rank- ings are based on final portfo- lio values. The University of Scranton is one of 11 colleges and uni- versities in Pennsylvania that host Centers for Economic Ed- ucation, each of which con- ducts its own Stock Market Game competition. The team actually lost money early in the competition by “short selling” some stocks, but buying shares of Toys “R” Us recouped their losses and was the major reason for its success.
