Marc Noyalis led the Bucs with two doubles, and Joe Boris saved the day with tremendous defense at third base in the last inning. Casey Judge pitched a great game for the Cards and was assisted on offense with hits from Mike Di- aco, John Prater, and Richard Reinard. Orioles 7, Red Sox 4 Kyle Piazza smashed a home run to lead the O’s past the Sox. Steve Meskers and Ryan Urzen combined to strike out 15 Red Sox. Cody Plesnar and Tom Youells pitched well for the Sox, striking out eight. A’s 11, Dodgers 0 Pat Healy no hit the Dodgers in four innings as the A’s close in on first place. Healy struck out six in the win. Nick Lom- bard, Derek Martin, and Pat Healy had two hits a piece for the A's. Yankees 11, Giants 0 Henry Messinger dazzled the Giants throwing a no hitter and striking out nine in a Yankees win. Messinger also added three hits including a triple. Josh Shaver added two hits in- cluding a double, and DJ Berley banged out two hits for the Yanks. Phillies 12, Orioles 8 The trio of Sean Macdugal, Ryan Naugle, and Jonathon Thomas combined to strike out ten batters in the win. Carson Baker led the attack with three hits, Ryan Naugle added two, as well as Jonathon Thomas and Tyler Barrall with twi hits a piece. Ryan Urzen smashed four hits for the O’s, and Steve Meskers added two, with a dou- ble. Phillies 4, Astros 1 Hunter Englehart and Carson Baker combined on a two hit- ter, striking out nine in the Phillies victory. Nick Artsma walked three times and scored 2 runs to lead the first place Phils. Scott Daube added a triple for the winners. Michael Eckman had the only two hits for the Astros. Orioles 3, Tigers 2 Steve Meskers drove in Eric Fritzges in the bottom of the seventh inning to top the Tigers. Ryan Urzen and Meskers struck out 12 Tigers in the win. Mike Menn had a double for the Reds, and Nick Latosek, Tony Bevevino, and Adam Holena added singles in the loss. A’s 11, Indians 5 Jeremy Bess and Derek Mar- tin banged out three hits as the A’s cruised past the Indians. Nick Lombard picked up the win striking out six. Pat Healy added a triple for the A’s. Dave Fetchko had two hits for the Tribe. A’s 16, Yankees 7 Derek Martin pitched the A’s in to a first place tie with the Yankees striking out eight. Martin also added three hits in- cluding a triple. TJ Brandt had three hits and Brian Poeperling had two hits for the Stro’s. Austin Carr picked up the only hit for the Dodgers. Astros 12, Red Sox 2 Neil Harris one hit the Red Sox, striking out three in the win. Justin Eimers and Michael Eckman had two hits for the Astros. Eric Baines had the only hit for the Sox. Astros 7, Orioles 6 Justin Eimers smashed three hits including a triple to lead the Astros past the O’s. Eimers - also combined with Kyle Par- sons to strike out 11 Orioles. Michael Eckman added two hits with a double for the Stro’s. Ryan Urzen, Keith Roberts, and Steve Meskers had two hits each for the Orioles in the loss. Astros 9, Pirates 3 Michael Eckman had three hits including a home run to lead the Astros past the Buc’s. Justin Eimers had two hits with a double, and TJ Brandt had a double in the win. The 2003 Major League championship was decided Thursday in a game between the Yankees and Phillies that took place too late for this is- sue. The AAA championship game was scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday. Snyder is happy about at least one thing this soggy sea- son. “I'm thankful that Steve Skammer is doing the Major League scheduling,” he said, of a year that saw more cancella- tions and rescheduling than ever before. All-Star play starts Saturday The District 16 Little League baseball tournament will begin Saturday, June 28, with 14 games. All first-round games in the double-elimination tournament are 2 p.m. unless noted. All other games throughout the tournament start at 6 p.m. Mountain Top is the defending champion. In firstround games, Exeter is at Back Mountain National, fol- lowed by Jenkins Township at Back Mountain American (at 4 p.m. Little League Softball also starts Saturday, June 28, with three 6 p.m. games, including Back Mountain at Duryea. The June 28 winners will advance to the second round the fol- lowing day. The Back Mountain-Duryea winner hosts Mountain Top. Matt Ide’s two-run double keyed a seven-run third inning for the Hawks as they soared to an 8-1 lead. But Tunkhannock reliev- ers Adam Robinson and Corey Rau shut down the Back Moun- tain hitters over the last five in- nings. Tunkhannock won the game in the bottom of the 8th when the first two batters reached on bunt singles, then after a pickoff, a strikeout, and a Chad Crispell single, Hawks reliever Brian Cornia walked Rau to load the bases with two out. A 3-1 wild pitch to Brad Grey forced in the winning run. Ryan Gryskevicz and Dusty Kapson each had a pair of hits for Back Mountain. The loss drops Back Mountain to 4-6 in WVALRBSB play. Hazleton 8, Back Mountain 7 Back Mountain dug them- selves an early hole June 23, with three errors in the first in- ning that led to five Hazleton runs. A comeback effort fell short in an 87 loss. Starting pitcher Ryan Gryskevicz walked four batters in the first three innings, and all four of them scored. Dusty Kapson came on in relief in the fourth and shut down the Hazleton lineup as the Hawks chipped away at the Hazleton lead. Football camp for youth at Dallas High School The Dallas High School football team will hold its annual youth football camp Monday through Wednesday, July 14-16 at the high school. The three-day camp for players ages 7-13 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The clinic will be under the direction of veteran head coach Ted Jackson and his coaching staff. A group of former and cur- rent players also will serve as instructors. The camp stresses all aspects of offense campers. and defense, including throwing, running, receiving, blocking and tackling. All players receive the opportunity to play every posi- tion.
