Section 2 The Dallas Post THE DALLAS POST Two Kapitulas work make impact at Lehman By KEVIN KAZOKAS Post Correspondent One of the most tangible mea- sures of success in the athletic ca- reers of Mark and Matt Kapitula might be the jug of home run balls their parents began keeping dur- ing the years their sons played Lit- tle League baseball. The jug has ng since overflowed, and the me run balls still keep coming. “There’s so many of them that we don't even go get them any- more,” says their mom, Tracy Ka- pitula. Beyond trophies and souvenirs “We're lucky. We're a baseball family and we just enjoy watching them play.” Tracy Kapitula Mother marking the championship teams the brothers have played on, the Kapitulas and their parents could cite many other examples of the family’s dedication to baseball and the accomplishments the two players have achieved. And this season, they're getting to watch each other excel as mem- bers of the Lake-Lehman High School varsity team. So far this season, each has added three homers to their re- spective totals. But the role both brothers play on their Black Knights baseball squad extends far beyond that of power hitter. Senior Mark Kapitula has pa- trolled center field, shortstop, and even occasionally pitched for Lehman this season. Freshman Matt Kapitula has spent the year as starting left fielder for the varsi- ty team, but has taken the mound regularly for the junior varsity squad. Lake-Lehman High School athletic teams recovered from a string of losses in the winter sea- son and came back with victo- ries over Dallas squads in soc- cer, track and softball to win the inaugural Back Mountain Cup. The trophy, which will be held by the winning school until the end of next year’s athletic schedule, will be presented at a gala cookout celebration on Friday, May 30 at Frances Slocum State Park. The event is open to the all members of both school fami- lies, and to anyone who would like to share in honoring the dedication of high school student-athletes. After the Trojans scored their two unearned runs in the first inning on a pair of infield errors and two singles, Lake-Lehman 11, Wyoming Area 2 LEHMAN TWP. — Dustin Kapson went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI as the host Black Knights won their for the Rangers, Taylor Dunn, 2 hits, Joey Evans, a triple, and 3-2. Englehart struck out 12, al- lowed only 4 hits, and also banged out a double and a triple in the win. Michael Ryan scored the tying run on a passed ball and Nick Artsma, a triple and an RBI, and Ryan Naugle a single and an RBI were the difference. Stephan Schilling had two hits, with a double, and Corey Shaver and Conrad Kraszewski had the only other hits for the Dodgers. Orioles 11, Tigers 1 Steve Meskers and Ryan Urzen combined on a one hitter, and struck out 7, to propel the Orioles. Urzen also tripled for the O's, and Kyle Piazza and Adam Viercinski doubled in the win. Zach Dirsa pitched well for the Tigers, striking out 7. Chris Rose a key base hit. Richard Wengrzynek and Matt Shaver pitched well for the Tigers, striking out 9. Scott Ric- cetti had 3 hits for the Tigers, and Zack Dirsa and Steven Haughwout doubled in the loss. Winning Dodgers 5, Giants 4 pitching T.J. Stepanski led the Dodgers. Austin Carr, 2 hits, and Chris McAndrew, 1 hit, led the Dodger attack.. For the Gi- ants, Matt Boyle doubled and Eric Cannon singled in defeat. SOFTBALL Wyoming Area 1 EXETER — Jamie Hoyt went 2-for-4 with a double as Lake- Lehman defeated Wyoming Area. Lauren Pyscoty and Tiffany Hettes hit triples for the Black Knights, and Whitney Pollock also had a double. Sheree Hor- vath held the Warriors to three hits and struck out eight to claim the win. Nanticoke Bishiop Hoban 8, Dallas 4 DALLAS — Hoban trailed 3-2 DeRojas passes 1500 points | Chris DeRojas reached a milestone by scoring over 1500 points as a member of the Gate of Heaven basketball team. Chris is the son of striking out 12. Eckman only gave up two hits and struck out 8 in a losing effort. Carson Bak- er, scored the only 2 runs for entering the top of the fifth, when Kathleen Maloney’s homer put the Argents ahead to stay. Lauren Patton hit a triple for scored two unearned runs in the first inning to claim a 2-1 win against the Mountaineers in a game played May 10 at Wyoming Rangers 10, Tigers 9 Steven Ruch pitched and hit the Rangers past the Tigers.
